    Thinking about getting a Pom...

And was just wondering if any of you out there are Pom owners and have any advice for me? I'm a new time dog owner, in a sense. My Mom and Dad used to breed German Shepherds, but I was still a baby then and don't remember much about it. We've owned dogs on and off since then, but I'm still not as knowledgeable as I'd like to be. Heh...

Oh, and I'm thinking of getting a female, so it'll be my first time having to deal with a dog being in heat and everything too... Fun fun! So any advice or anything would be awesome!

Otherwise just feel free to tell me about your Poms or maybe share some pictures! I'd love to see the cute little guys. <3

Hi, i have a pom, shes called Foxy just turned 1 at the beginning of June.
sounds like you are in the same situation i was in. my family also used to breed german shepherds for many years when i was younger, and i fell in love with the Pom breed the very first time i met one at a crufts show. i then set about learning everything i could about them and was very lucky when a lady contacted me and offered me a puppy. i only paid £200 for foxy, and she is champion bloodlined, pedigree and a little stunner. she is by far the best dog i have owned, and she is fantastic.
Such a fast learner, by the time she was 12 weeks old, she was house trained and learned, sit, stay, lie down, paw, fetch up, down, in and out. she doesnt bark, and loves everyone, alot of people will tell you that Poms are picky over who they bond with and are yappy, but until foxy was 7month old she never barked once. and now the only time she barks is when my boyfriend gets home and he starts playing with her.
shes not really a big eater, will usually just pick at her food and go back to it when she wants a mouth full.
Foxy is my first bitch of my own, so my first heat cycles to deal with. she went into heat for the first time at 11month old, and it was suprisingly easy. we have a 6 foot wall around our yard so she had no chance of getting out on her own and no chance of other dogs getting in.
Our vets dont spay or neuter until the dogs are 11month old, so we couldnt have her spayed before her first heat cycle. and the next one she will be 2years old so we are planning on breeding if the vet says she will have no problem with it, doubtful though. and then she will be spayed.
Any advice you need im really happy to help
