got myself a ten month old pup last night he is deerhound cross pointer. His mother is the english pointer and his dad the deerhound any advice on this kind of cross.
I have a Pointer X Lab and also Deerhound X Old English Sheepdog. Deerhound X Pointer sounds lovely. Got any recent pics of yours to see what kind of physical characteristics he has ?
Bit of an odd cross, but sounds like he will be great fun. A deerhound is on our wish list!!! Hard to say what he could be like as a cross can vary so much there is no way of knowing which parent he will take after, but you will have to keep us informed and pics are a must!!!
will try an put pics up over the weekend,he resembles the deerhound but when he spots something he stands with head out, one front leg lifted and tail straight at the minute he is a hand full as he has had no socializing nor any training, very hyper. But he is very friendly, infact over friendly with my other pups.He has been doctored, but it still dont calm him.If i can train this dog it will be the greatest achievement i have done.I know i should of left him where he was but my heart gets the better of me.All takes time and effort lol and lots,an lots of patience. But i will give it my very best shot.
Wow! what a cross! I think you may have really lucked out here - the most common problem with any kind of Lurcher/Sighthound is their instinctive, insatiable, unstoppable prey/chase drive, which can be nigh on impossible to control at times. Make sure you reward the Pointer actions and not any chase actions, and you will have a wonderful dog there..... unless you got him with a view to working him, he'll be pants at that if he points instead of chases! lol We DO need pictures! And I bet he's going to be some size when fully grown too... Deerhounds often top 30" TTS.
Must have pics!! I have an 8 month old Pointer pup (Codee) and would be fascinated by that cross... she does all the stop - point - wait thing, then she goes on mad zoomies around the fields, boy hope your fit!!;-)
