Just caught the tail end of a news item about a litter of test tube puppies which appeared to be different breed mixes in the same litter. Not sure what the motives behind this are - will have to watch the next news bulletin in full. Anyone else seen it?
I saw it on the news, here's the story http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-35053391 Quote Jennifer Nagashima, said IVF technology in dogs could prove useful in everything from conserving endangered species to removing “deleterious traits from breeds,” with research potentially applicable to “models for human disease” as well.
They are claiming it is a technique designed to conserve rare breeds of wild dogs. As usual it is university research Beagles which have played the roles of donor and surrogate. I know I'm biased, but I am really fed up of academics trying to be gods.
I would like to see them using people & not animals full stop, at least if they use people they are aware what they are doing to them & why
'They have been trying to do this since the 1970's'. Joyful words fail me. How many Cornell Beagles have had their embryo's taken? How many virgin Beagles have been made to receive those embryo's? These are all fairly major surgical procedures, - for whose benefit? I get the impression that I should be pleased by this report, but I stand by my signature. Please support the Run Free Alliance. Let's get Beagles out of laboratories!
