...at the moment. As some of you know ive been training Oscar and he has been doing really well recently. I took him out monday to do some and when we got home he started limping quite bad, so we took him to the vets and he said to rest him as much as possible, as it maybe a pulled muscle and gave him some pain releive. If it gets any worse or does not clear up within the next week we have to take him back, as it might be his hips. Which I seriously hope its not, as its such a big operation if he had to have one and he is only young. As you can guess im pretty worried, and if he does have to have a big operation I dont think we would carry on with the training after it. Im just really hoping its nothing serious. I apologise for moaning, but I have never seen him like this before. :-(
So sorry to hear that Nat :-( Poor Oscar. But please dont sign him off just yet. It can be just a muscle or something. Bad hips useally shows much earlier and he´s two now with no history of limping or previos badness or discomforting in his back legs right? Let him rest now (that cant be easy :? ) and see how he is when the week is over. Guess you have to be a bit strict with him. Fingers crossed from here and best wishes from both Ally and I :smt058
Thanks AM I have no plans to stop the training, only if he does have to have an op, we are very unlikely to go back to it. At the moment we are resting him, which is hard as he is such an active dog, and keeps getting up waiting for me to take him out, so we wont be doing any training for a while and will take it easy :-( so I am having to be strict with him. But hopefully it is just a pulled muscle, as we are doing well now in training and I really dont want to give it up when we have come this far. And like you say he has had no previous trouble with his legs, he has never even been ill before. So at the moment Im putting it down to a pulled muscle, and we will hopefully be back in action soon :? I know he would miss the training as much as I would, so he just has to get better ;-) :smt058 right back at you.
Aww :-( I hope he's ok, try not to worry that much though. He's only young and will bounce back As amts says HD or anything like that normally shows at a much younger age. 2 Summers ago Casper was bitten by an adder on his front leg and since then does occassionally go limp on that leg, only when he's over done it and sometimes he can be a tad clumsy as well. I'm sure Oscar will be ok and best wishes to you both
I'm so sorry Oscar is not well I hope it's nothing serious Nat, I know how much the training means to you, and you have been doing so well! It would be so awful if you had to stop
Thanks willow Hopefully Im worrying over nothing and he will be back to his normal self asap, and its just a pulled muscle. Sorry to hear abour Casper that must of been scarey for you? :-( Thanks Tuti I hope its nothing serious too, its a nightmare trying to keep him resting being so active, he doesnt understand why he cant go for a run I do enjoy the training and so does Oscar seeing his dummy is the high light of his day and he has come so far to stop now, I want my mad dog back. Thanks guys
Oh no Nat:-( Poor Oscar babe:-( I hope its only a pulled muscle. Maybe give him a bone to chew, that should keep him quiet for a little while;-) I will keep my fingers crossed for you and Oscar... I dont know anything ab out HD, so I wont say anything about that.. But I hope it isnt that. And hope you two can come back to training really soon hugs J
Aaawww poor Oscar!:-( Hopefully, it's just a pulled muscle and he'll soon be up and running! Sending bigs hugs to you both!
:smt058 Thanks guys! Good news Oscar is back to his normal self not even a limp all day :smt026 Im so releived, I let him rest most of today but since we have quite abig garden I cant exactly keep him in 24/7 so he has been back to him normal self this afternoon charging around like a idiot The vet said we could go back to normal now as its obviously nothing serious and he said he might of just been cramp in his leg, whatever it was has gone now, Im over the moon and so is Oscar, will post a video of him in the pic section in a min
That is excellent news Nat. I´m so happy for you I know its hard but try taking it slow the next couple of days and let him fully recover But this is really great - way to go Oscar :smt041
Thanks everyone We will be back to normal soon, thank god. Just uploaded a video and some pics of Oscar the way I like him best :? http://www.dogweb.co.uk/talkdogs/new-way-to-train-lab_21908.html
It was at the time, his paw swelled the same size as my hand ! When we left him at the vets I was mess, convinced I'd never see him again and the last time I'd see him was the vet nurse taking him away and him not wanting to go But fortunately he's a toughie and he pulled through fantastically, it was just worry on my part and getting myself worked up. I picked him up from the vet 24 hours later and was told he was a perfect patient Since then though he's been fine and just as I said before when he over does it sometimes, he can go lame on it, but after about 2 hours worth of bed rest and then he's fine
Glad you liked the pics and video Willow and hope the video didnt take forever to load :? I like our garden too, but with the lake and Oscar he spends most of his time in and out of there Poor Casper glad he pulled through, worrying that he got bite though and if the snake was not caught it might bite again. Im glad you knew what bite him so you could get the correct treatment asap. Its alwalys worrying when there injured, glad to hear he is doing ok now
