i was wondering if anyone knew a breed called sooky? if so is it a cross breed of what? is it part of the cavalier king charles spaniel family or silky terrier family.. please help thank you
No it`s not a new breed. A cross between two breeds creates a crossbreed dog, not a new breed. People have jumped on to a bandwaggon of calling crossbreed dogs daft names and calling them `designer dogs` and charging silly proces for what is essentially a mongrel. I like crossbreeds but I don`t think calling them a made up name does them much of a favour TBH. The dog is question should be called a CKCS/ Silkie cross. Considering how many genetic health problem there are in Cavaliers, I suggest you make sure both parents are health checked.
Thank You For This As A Breeder Tried To Sell Me A Pure Kc Spaniel But It Had Sooky After It So I Was Wondering.. Thank You Again
It's not a mongrel technically, it is just a crossbreed. A crossbreed (as I understand it) is a cross between two pure-bred parents (in this case a CKCS and a silkie). A mongrel is a dog that has any number of breeds in it's make-up (and they are often unknown), or a dog that has one crossbreed parent and one pure-bred (so if the CKCS x Silkie then mated with a KCS for example). Whilst I agree with you that there is an increasing (and unnecessary) market for daft-named crossbreeds it is also worth noting that the 'pure-bred' dogs of today are the odd crossbreeds of yesterday. In 50 years time they'll probably be crossing labradoodles with cockerpoos and calling them labdoocockerpoos (or something) and people will be talking about why others feel the need to crossbreed 'pure-bred' dogs to make odd mixes. And before someone tells me that these designer crossbreeds are just for the sake of vanity etc it is also worth noting the labradoodle was originally a crossbreed tried as a working Guide Dog in an attempt to create an allergy-free dog with the right temprament for the work (and in general, working needs have driven the crossbreeding that created the 'pure' breeds of today)
i have a pup now that was sold to me as a pure ckcs. but when i looked at the papers the parents said this.... mother was a KC and the father a CKCS sooky.... so i take it i got had..lol
Not necessarily - it may be a misprint or something. Why not query it with the breeder? Nothing wrong with cross-breeds BTW - I`m sure he`s lovely.
