    Someone's nicked my figs!

    This is really strange!

I have a monthly Subscribe and Save delivery from Amazon. Included in the order is a box of 6 Crazy Jack Organic figs. When I was unpacking today's delivery I noticed that the box had been opened and resealed with sticky tape saying 'Opened for Official Examination, Official Veterinary Surgeon UK Authorised Officer, Suffolk Coastal Port Health Authority.' Then, on top of that, a label saying 'Sampled by Suffolk Coastal Port Health Authority, Felixstowe.' I wasn't bothered by the examination bit but didn't like the sound of the Sampled bit, so opened the box and found there were only five packs of figs instead of six!

I'm assuming it must have happened when the first arrived in the country.

I'm trying to contact Amazon to tell them what has happened. I press the Contact Us button and select to communicate by email, but when I try and send it a thing comes up saying please give your name. But there isn't anywhere to put my name! I suppose I'll have to ring them, but our phone is playing up so it won't be an easy conversation!

I didn't think of that - next time I'll try it.

I've just telephoned - as I expected the phone kept fading away and I had to keep getting him to repeat himself. However, I'm very impressed with their service - they are despatching another box of figs to me and I can keep the ones I already have.

Result! I found them excellent when 2 slots of my 4 slot toaster stopped working, no hassle and replacement delivered next day.

The nice young man called Benjamin who I spoke to said I will get my figs tomorrow as he is sending them by Express Delivery (don't know why he thinks I am in urgent need of so many figs!) so yes, I think they are excellent. And yet I've heard lots of people say they have poor customer service.

What a cheek Janet eating your figs  I bet they enjoyed them.
Where did they come from, perhaps they were looking for illegal substances o_O

Probably! I actually eat loads of figs, dried apricots and dates because I like them - but I suppose it must help in that department!
Well I suppose at least they were honest and stuck a label on saying 'Sampled'!

The packaging says they are packed in Turkey on behalf of Crazy Jack. What puzzles me is why dried figs were examined by the Official Veterinary Surgeon. Were they looking for some sort of stowaway creature? Very odd

I have three fig trees in my side yard and they fig profusely.

Strange that the only person who can reach them manages to de-fig them every year...

Lol after saying how good they were I had a parcel from Amazon today, it contained two glass bottles of vitamin b complex capsules. Ordered yesterday and delivered this morning but they packed them in one of those boxes they send cd's and dvd's out in, with no packaging or bubble wrap just glass protected by cardboard. Needless to say one of the jars was smashed and as I opened the box little slivers of glass went everywhere. I filled in the online form to say they were damaged and they have arranged collection for Monday. I can't have a replacement because although it came from Amazon it was sold on behalf of a third party, so my only option was a refund and reorder. OK not a problem, then the cheeky buggers sent me a list of instructions on how to package the item and what is and is not acceptable packaging. Well they can sod off, they can have it back exactly as I received it. How very odd because I usually complain they go way OTT with packaging and any parcel from them fills up an entire recycling bag with long strands of brown paper.

What a nuisance - you'd think they'd take extra care with anything glass. You could have cut yourself.

Twice I've had plates/bowls broken in transit from John Lewis. They were very good and took my word for it so I didn't have to do anything ridiculous like sending back broken crockery.

And re packaging from Amazon - I've often had tiny items packed in a huge box with all that brown paper! Still, Bogie loves sitting in the big boxes so at least he gets a bit of pleasure out of it.

On the subject of fresh figs - the bungalow the other side of my neighbour, which now belongs to the son of the original owners, my neighbour's aunt and uncle, was recently rented it to a young couple [with four children under school age and a fifth on the way]. It had the most enormous fig tree ever and figged profusely every year.

As the tree is in the corner of front yard between the pavement and the tractor path, anyone who wanted could pick some figs if they wanted.

Yesterday the young man plus a couple of his friends sawed off all the lower branches, leaving the remainder of the tree unreachable. They then dragged all they had cut across the road and dumped it in the drainage ditch opposite.

People kept stopping and telling them that it is forbidden to cut down any part of a tree which is full of fruit, also that the figs have always been for anyone who wanted, but were ignored. They were also told that there is an area for any garden refuse that is regularly picked up by a special truck, just 100m down the road, and from the shouting that was going on those guys were being very abusive.

Their landlord is going to do his nut when he finds out.

Apparently, the fresher the fig the better! So the ones from the supermarket or greengrocer will never be the same as the ones straight off the tree.

I planted a small fig tree a couple of years ago. No fruit, but I live in hope! And anyway, the leaves are really attractive so it's worth having anyway.
