So I was in the macolet...

...and a guy came in and gave me my wallet which he had found outside.

Better explain. Chai puts out fruit and vegetables left over when fresh comes in, ditto banquettes and bags of pittot for anyone who wants them. So when I go across I have a look, as things like sweet peppers of all colours, plus cucumbers, plus whatever else, are perfect to shove in the food processor for Pereg, just chung chung chung - not processed into a puree.

This morning there was a carton full of baguettes and pittot, so I took half a dozen whole-grain baguettes - good for Pereg and, to be honest, fine for me. I mean want not waste not.

But - when I took the folded re-usable bag out of my wheelie bag, I must have also pulled out, and dropped, my wallet.

So it hadda loada dosh in it but also had all my cards. Not just my Isracard and my Visa and my hole in the wall card, but my Health Fund card, my Disability card, my Old Age card [for what use either it or the Disability card are] and dunno what else but all very very very important stuff.

So there I was, buzzing round the macolet when wotsisname [I know him but do not know his name] came in with a huge grin on his face and gave me my wallet, which I had no idea had dropped. P H E W

And then I came home to find a reminder on my computer to phone my Bank for various things but before I could the telephone rang and it was my Bank. Karma or what?

I am not sure what they wanted but whatever it was I did not want, but it saved me a telephone call as I wanted to order more cheque books as I do use cheques for some people/things, and a couple of other things. All sorted - and my neighbour will go collect cheque books and then new Isracard when it is due for renewal in April - saved me not just a telephone call but another struggle to explain what I want.

I am currently sitting here with my wallet shoved down my sweater, being oh so grateful for living where I do with such wonderfully honest people around.

My purse as anti theft alarm/bells on, so if dropped or taken the bells dingle & the alarm goes off

Those both look brilliant Tina - never seen either before, but there is nothing on my wallet that I could put those bells on, nor anywhere on my actual purse, which rarely has much money in it as big notes are kept in my wallet, but I will have a hunt round the net to see what there is. I can always get a hole punched in both my wallet and my purse if necessary.

Having once had my bag [a normal bag, not a special one] "removed" from the back of my manual wheelchair while at the big supermarket a few years back [must have been more than a few years as it was before I got my little scooter] I always carry wallet, purse etc in a bag across my body if going out, but for going across to the macolet both are at the bottom of the large wheelchair bag on the back of Xanadu, which is not easily removed and definitely cannot be taken without me noticing.

Anyhow, the wallet was obviously caught in the folded - what on earth do you call them? Those re-usable canvas-type shopping bags? Well, whatever it is called, my wallet must have been caught in it when I pulled it out of Xanadu's large back to put the poly bag of wholegrain baguettes in it.

And if wotsisname had not picked it up and brought it into the macolet to give to me, I would not have known it was gone until I wanted one of my cards or something.

And then I would really have

One of your better days then, Malka. We all need a few of them to restore our faith in mankind.

Glad you got your wallet back and all your stuff was in it. Where I live I would have never seen any of it again. I carry my wallet in my front pocket or in my hand. Haven't bothered with a purse in years.

@manydogz - purse in English English means small, umm, thing in which to carry money, not as in American English where purse means, umm, hand/shoulder/clutch bag.

I keep coins and small value notes in my purse, larger value notes in my wallet together with my cards, and both are kept in a bag - which you know as a purse!

The difference between English English and American English can be rather confuddling at times, can it not?! :D

Yes, it can get confusing. Glad you took the time to tell me the difference. Another tidbit of information to store away for whenever I need it.
