I was very impressed by these videos. I really enjoyed watching these breeds being put through their paces as it shows what can be done with perserverance, and patience with breeds which are not traditionally the easiest to motivate to work with a handler so closely. Just thought I would share. http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jJxx7DXA7fg http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=jJxx7DXA7fg http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=KG4ekp2qIAw The last video would put some BC competitve obedience work to shame lol. I would be interested to know if anyone on Dogsey works their northern breed in this way.
There was Irene Stapely who used to work her Huskies & had one C only, about 3 or 4 years ago at Crufts their was a sibe in the inter regionals i THINK working (novice or A) so they are def very trainable. My trainer really likes them!!!& i think has a hankering!!!!
That's cool Muddiwarx - do you have a video of what she does? What level does she compete at? How do you motivate her - food? ball? praise? Would you say she is a challenge to train compared to collies/gsds? Is she as accurate in heelwork/positioning as the collies, or is she a bit looser if you see what I mean? I'm really interested in this, as I love the northern breeds, but was always a bit unsure of their trainability, and their reliability once trained. Cheers!
Great videos! No way would Kiska do that, she would sit and evaluate if it was worth it and them MAYBE do it once just for a laugh. Heaven help me if i try and get her to do anything when she isn't in the mood! Took her to a show the weekend and she was a right moddy mare and sulked all day. Just look at that face - Not amused sums it up!!
Irenes were just as tight as the collies. Need GOOD training though ,very motivational, Collies will on the whole repeat repeat repeat,. with a breed like this i think it would be little & often (but not too often) with tons of reward! DEF can be done though!!!
They are awesome i'd love to do things like that with Isis but she's to stubborn, she only does things if i have something good to offer her even then it doesn't always work
I've tried it with Isis she doesn't care I keep saying to my O/H she's either very very thick or as stubborn as a mule the more we watch her the more we realise she's just stubborn
There is hope for Kismet yet So pleased to see what can be achieved with patience and perseverance. With Kismet in Season we have been ramping up her heelwork and obedience training to give her garden activities to do... As soon as i can get her on a nice open field I'll post some videos.. She's doing really well... she's no where near these dogs standards though
I agree that it is the intelligent stubborn dogs that are the hardest. It's easy to fool a less intelligent dog into thinking a ball is the best thing ever and a rabbit is not worth chasing lol.
