Siberian Husky - Cryptorchidism Research samples needed Health

Hi Everyone
I have been contacted by the genetics department at Ohio State University where they are undertaking research into cryptorchidism in the Siberian Husky. They are looking for dogs in the UK which have either just one or neither testicle descended and they simply need a mouth swab of DNA from any affected dog. (Even if the dog has been castrated but started out with only one or none descended they still need the sample). If the dog has an unaffected litter brother then so much the better and they would like a DNA swab from those dogs too.
I have sent a number of swabs to people already but if anyone else has dogs with the problem (and we know there are lots of them out there!) please would you email me and I’ll send you the swabs – if Ohio can develop a simple DNA test to identify carriers then it has to be to the good of Siberians in the future. There’s no cost to us and it’s REALLY simple to carry out.

A further update..

Caroline Kisko is still following up on the cryptorchidism research project at the University of Ohio and is in need of more mouth swab samples. What is needed are samples from pairs of brothers (full litter mates) – one affected and one unaffected. It’s very simple to do and Caroline is happy to do most of the paperwork if that helps!
