You may, or may not!, remember the three pups we kept back from the litter we had last year. Well all three are doing really well. All three are very different and have their strengths and weaknesses but, barring any disasters, it looks like our team for the future will be made up from our home bred dogs Not great photos (need to swap my camera for a decent one ) but this might give you an idea of their styles of working Fly and Craig Greg and Fly Holding them up Taking them back to the hill
Do you know any of the lines Bruce and Skye go back to? They could certainly have some of the same blood going back
I wish I did, Skye came from a puppy farm(IMO) in Wales, right in the middle of no-where, boy there were so many puppies of all ages and breeds it was untrue. I wanted to leave immediately (once we'd spent hours looking for the place) and I did, only Skye threw herself at me so many times, I left with her paying £100 for her and a scrap of paper Not the best way I know, but the advertisment read of luxury breeding kennels (which were pig pens literally) full of pups. Bruce came from Ireland with his Mom and Dad (although born here) Dad was due to be shot and Mom had been bred several times Thats all I know about them really. But I think you said yourself they have similar looks
Pics 2 and 3 remind me so much of them, the holding stance one reminds me of Skye, the pic no: 2 has a very similar coat texture to bruce, does he have a faint saddle across the shoulders like Bruce in a lighter brown
Really glad they are doing so well And yes, I think Greg and Fly could easily switch as doubles for Bruce and Skye
Couldn't they, I could do swops, mind you they may notice when it came to working sheep, as bruce has no interest what-so-ever
More of your wonderful piccies and your lovely dogs Now my pup is nearly 6mths old I think its time I took a comparison to when she was 8wks Jeanette
Thanks everyone. Yes Steph, I have said a few times how much yours remind me of some of ours Even though neither of yours was *well bred* as such (puppy farms etc) they could still definitely have some of the same dogs back in their ancestry. Would you like to try yours on sheep when you come up next year? If you would, then just let me know and you can come up here.
I think Skye may be up for it, she loves herding the chicks LOL but yes I think she would love to have ago. We have been approached twice by farmers asking if they can buy her off us (not really negotiable) But she knows what they are we have been close to them and she is the one we put on lead as she starts to go round and moves them. But bruce has been actually through sheep at close proximity, and totally ignored them, they moved but he was totally unfazed by the whole thing. He was the one I wondered about too as his dad works sheep now in Warwickshire, obviously bruce did not gain that gene So that would be interesting.
Excellent. There are also some nice forest walks up here, so we could arrange a walk as well as the sheep session and you could all come here for a cuppa
Fine thats sorted. I forgot to add, Bruce does like chickens though he bops them on thier head with his nose............that is the closest he gets to herding. He will be loveing the fact that you have chucks
