A NEW roundabout in Ilkeston has been officially named “Gnome Island” following an online petition. Members of Erewash Borough Council’s planning committee made the decision to formally name the Nottingham Road roundabout, in Ilkeston, tonight. Since July, dozens of garden gnomes have taken over the roundabout, built as part of the Morrisons supermarket development. Councillor Val Clare, Mayor of Erewash, was at the planning meeting, She said: “We don’t usually name roundabouts but we felt that this was something a little light-hearted. Whether we made it official or not, people would still call it Gnome Island so there was no real reason to turn it down.” The idea to name the island follows an online petition – signed by 520 people – which was submitted to the council. Gnowing you I just gnew that gno way would you gnot sign the petition. Gnor could you resist gnowing that if you did gnot put some gnomes on it, it could gnot be gnamed Gnome Island!
And remembering that you had mentioned the various places you had lived, I would also say that you are GNOMADIC...
There's also gnome conventions that are held all over the world, I have been to USA, Germany, Australia, New Zealand, France, Hungary, Spain, Greece, Italy & Argentina, one knows when a gnome convention is in town because there's people dressed up as gnomes xxxx
