    Rotty pup injections

My pup is 9weeks old, she's already potty trained but I wondered about injections. Her parents never had them and have always been healthy. My friend had his rotty injections and had never ending problems so I'm very dubious about getting my pup done. What are the odds on her getting ill? Isit imperitive for her to get them done?

    Hi,

Glad youve got your new best friend!! Exciting times await you both Im sure...

In my opinion I would always advise vaccinating your puppy...having witnessed parvo in a young pup and one who came in unvaccinated at about 2 years old I would never not vaccinate.

Parvo is an awful disease and many pups die or are put to sleep as they get so poorly. The bloody diarrhoea that goes with the stomach cramps and vomitting are awful to witness and can be very expensive to treat and not 100% chance of a good outcome...is this a risk you want to take with your new healthy pup?

Yes, Im sure there are adverse reactions to vaccines but that is the risk you take with any medicine for animals and humans alike.

Im sure others will be along to voice their opinions...and some will agree and some may disagree!!

I would never ever not get a puppy vaccinated. Rotts are very suceptable to parvo.
You say the parents wern't vaccinated is that puppy vaccinations or just boosters because if they advised you puppy vacs wern't needed they're not very responsible breeders in my opinion.

I am no expert but when I was about 12yrs old my parents took in 2 abandoned pups and it was doubtful they had received their vaccinations and we were so excited that we had 2 lovely puppies but we had them for all of 2 days before they got very very ill and it turns out they had parvo (maybe why they were dumped in the first place). My parents had booked them in to get their injections and they were put to sleep instead when we went to the vets as they were so ill. It was horrible to see even though I was young, but I will never forget it, and will never not have my animals vaccinated as a result.

I may be wrong on this, but I always thought that pups built up a little bit of resistance to disease from the mother, if she has been vaccinated. Not enough to protect it long term though. If this is right, and your pup's mum has not been vaccinated, then the risk to your pup may be higher. (I am sure somebody on here with more expertise/knowledge could clarify this one way or another).

Ps. Welcome to Dogsey and enjoy your new addition! :)

    Thank you. -
Im going to take her asap. Will she be ok as she is 9weeks and has been out side a few times. I'm going to book her in first thing meanwhile she will still be going outside for the toilet. Its enclosed but the previous tenants had a huge alsation.

I think that is a good idea :)

I would keep the pup away from any dog walking paths, parks etc. Basically anywhere public. And away from other dogs. When did the previous tenants leave the property you are in? Also, when you do go to the vets, carry your pup, don't let it walk on the floor. I was advised of this when I took my dog - apparently avoids passing anything on or picking up anything.

Taking her to toilet in the garden should be fine but don't take her out in public where strange dogs have been.
She won't be able to go out for a while because she will need 2 jabs 2-3 weeks apart then at least a week after that before she is safe to go out.
