Jan. 2, 2015. Rita left us at 3:30 pm. Devastated to say the least. Can't even see the screen to type so no more for now. I loved her so.
I am so very sorry to hear that your beloved little Rita has gone to The Bridge, and my tears are falling as I type this. A prayer for Rita Our G-d and G-d of our ancestors, Creator of the universe which You filled with the wonders of life, You have brought forth diverse living creatures and endowed us with the ability to love them, care for them, and be comforted by them. O Lord our G-d, we come before You this day in sadness. Rita, who brought us so much joy in life, has now died. We are grateful to You, G-d, for creating her, for entrusting her to our care, and for sustaining her in our love for a measure of time. We thank you for the life of our pet, a constant and loyal companion who shared our home and our love. At the same time we grieve the loss of our beloved Rita, we give You thanks for the miracle of life and the wonder of the love and companionship we shared. We understand that all that lives must die. We knew that this day would come. And yet, O G-d, we would have wanted one more day of love with our beloved Rita. G-d, full of love, dwelling in the spirit of all life, may the spirit of Rita be accepted into Your love. By the merit of her love, may her spirit live on in the love of all life. O G-d, as we have taken care of Rita in life, we ask that You watch over her in death. May we care for all Your creatures, for every living thing, as we protected the blessed life of our beloved Rita. May her memory bless our lives with love and caring forever. Amen. with love and comfort - Malka
Thanx to all of you. @Malka your prayer made me cry some more, but also brought me great comfort and joy for the amount of time we had Rita to love. It somehow sounded vaguely familiar, but that may just be my imagination.
It is not your imagination Debra - I have managed to find parts of it in the Siddur from the Shema and prayers for the dead - the Tanach and also in some Chabad literature. Someone, I do not know who or when, combined sections - and that prayer was sent me after my beloved Little One died. It makes me cry but it is a prayer from the heart - and the tears that fall help to understand and to heal. Yes we mourn death, but at the same time we thank G-d for the life that was, because had G-d not given that person, that pet, life in the first place, we would never have had their love and been able to give them love in return.
@Malka I'm going to write it down later today because I'm sure this won't be the last time i'll need it. And if you don't mind I like to be able to pass it on to others in need. and to everyone who takes the time to comment. You have no idea how important it is to know that there are others who feel as you do and know the deep sorrow of the passing of a furry child. You make such a huge difference.
@manydogz - Debra, please do pass that prayer on to anyone you think it might help. Whether they are believers or not, it gives thanks for a life. I have even used it in a condolence letter for a person, changing the wording accordingly. Because a life was given, a life was celebrated, and we give thanks for that life now it has gone.
