On one of the dog forums on Facebook, a owner has put up article about their pet insurance refusing to pay for the operation to remove a part chewed piece of ball that their dog had eated, they were told that their policy don't cover operations for hips, eyes, removal of foreign objects & imbedded sticks, this was in the small print which needed a magnified glass to read. This owner has been insurancing his 4 dogs with the same pet insurance company for the past 10 years & this is the first time he as ever put in a claim. Anyone who does have pet insurance I woud recommend they read the small print before you renew your policy
That's dreadful. If he has been paying insurance for four dogs for ten years he must have spent a small fortune.
Would be very interested in which company. The fact that is lists, hips and eyes means they where a pre condition or it's a local plan through there vet. Sounds more like they have a care plan vs a insurance policy.
Direct line pet insurance the owner has taken photo showing the conditions through a magnified glass. The policy only covers broken bones (but not if hit by car) dog bites, cuts & x-rays, there's been several comments all saying same that their pet insurance (different companies) don't cover hips eyes, eaten foreign objects, & sticks after they also have read the small prints so far there are over 700 hits about the pet insurance
Most I know of to not cover hips, elbow, and eyes if it is a prior condition. Mines covers them and if hit by a car, they do not cover prior diagnosed or suspected issues. Also Mine does not cover intentionally inflected.
You should read the small print of any insurance. There can be many exclusions in all types. Too many people don't read it and find out after a claim is denied. Hence why I would not have pet insurance.
I have always insured my dogs with Petplan, not the cheapest but you get what you pay for and there are minimal exclusions, certainly not any of those mentioned above. My last three dogs have all had to be referred to a specialist vets, Nala for TPLO when their was only one vet in the country carrying them out, Willow for an arthroscopy and Storm for tests to due to his whole body shutting down and his organs failing. Nala was on arthritis medication for 7 years and Willow has been too. Even without this I claimed more than I will ever pay in insurance for all three dogs. Willows medication is more than my premium each month!! Despite the regular claims for them my premiums have not been hiked up, all that has changed is the amount of excess that I have to pay which has increased when they have turned 11 (I expect Storm's to go up at the next renewal). I would ever have had enough money saved to pay for their treatment and that is why I have insurance.
