How bizarre to cut a hole in the ceiling to access the loft, don't they have a loft hatch? and how obliging of the rat to be exactly where they cut the hole. I've only ever seen 1 rat in my entire life and that was when I was a kid back in the '60's it was massive and my dad had just killed it. My OH works nights delivering to Tesco stores and sees them all the time though although they're never very big.

Ive had enough of rats for today. Got 1 in dads garage that his yorkies are obsessed with but when they have caught it they panic and drop it when it screams.
Also went to my lock up today turn on the tap and nothing but a drip comes out. Can hear running water so spent an hour emptying the lock up to find where my water pipe comes in at the corner a rat has chewed through it to make space to get through. So ive told my dad to stop putting a load of food on ground in garden the birds can just do without. Gave my cats at the lock up a stern talking to. And im looking in to some traps/poison or something. Would let my brother come with his rifal but not actually seeing them for more than 30 seconds. We had cat size rats at my last lock up that was next to a canal. The yorkies ran for their lives!! The rats ate their way through our truck. We lay on top of truck with rifal and got about 30 over the day. Cruel but were caterers and im not going to poor house for a rat

I was thinking something similar Malka, how do you react on discovering a 16" rat living in your kitchen? I remember seeing a mouse in my kitchen in my previous house when the neighbours were building an extension and made the mice homeless in the process. I declared war and wouldn't let up until they were gone, my terrier caught a couple of tiddlers too, he was faster than the cats.

Wow! Can only imagine my mum's reaction to that!

When I was little, in our old home out in the country, we had Mice in our loft which resulted in many exciting nights ( for us as children anyway! ) sleeping downstairs, as my mum refused to go upstairs! They was eventually dealt with. But then we had Rats in the garden. My sister & myself would leave bread out for them under the shed as we thought they was cute! ( sorry mum! ) Those rats were fairly big, but nothing like the ones featured in that article.

Then we moved to a more built up village and yet again had rats in the garden! Our youngest cat dealt with most...and Missy had one too. Another neighbour eventually seemed to clear them.

A holiday we took a few years back had a mouse or rat ( we can't be sure which ) which would creep into the office every night and steal the dog treats! My sister had a dog sausage wrapped up in plastic wrapper. A couple nights in, that sausage was no more!

Our old, old, home had Bats in the loft...but that's another thing altogether!
