Hi All, Just wondering if this a breed trait, something environmental, a puppy behaviour etc etc. Our 4 month old Malamute spends very little time with us, she much prefers to be off sleeping in the kitchen or lying outside even in the pouring rain. The doors/gates are almost always open except when we are eating or cooking and she has to be separated. She just seems to prefer her own company. We always try and coax her in for a cuddle, which she will for 5 minutes or so and then off she trots again. She doesn't like toys or chews very much but loves her food so she is a bit hard to play with when we aren't going through her training with treats (she loves training and is smart as can be). Just wondering on others experiences, particularly of this breed.
no, never seen this in my three Mals. yours is so young, though, she probably is pining for her mother. I bet she gets over this phase soon, though good luck!
There are/were no underlying issues, just had 6 month health check and all is well. Having said that, she now spends a bit more time with us, will bring in certain toys for a play session and will lie in the living room when chewing bones etc (not that she does a lot of that either) but sleep time is definitely still alone time. Trots off to the kitchen, tips her waterbowl onto the doormat and lies in the puddle usually.....at the very least on the tiles. Not much of an issue anymore but she is definitely not a lapdog or attention seeker.
