Prayers and Paws Crossed- Vet Appointment

Hubby had to work late so we missed last visit. Callie is due at the vet at 1 tomorrow. I'm trying to brace myself. The xrays last Fall were just so upsetting...the bone in the middle that is his knee surrounded by splintered bone. Now he does the three legged walk again from time to time. I'm just kinda preparing for the worst and hoping for the best. The whatever on his elbow needs looking at too. It might just be something minor, but his knees are the focus here. Let's hope it's something fairly uncomplicated.

Hope it goes well for you guys and him. What's up with his elbow? How old is he?

Thank you everybody. Oy, at least one bit of good news is that his elbow is just from leaning on it a bit of antibiotic cream and it will heal on it's own. Sigh...tell me something I don't already know. She recommends the surgery. I also realize now that the pet insurance is useless in this situation because it's pre-existing. We just do not have several thousand dollars, plus she gave an overview of rehab afterwards. We live in an old house with steep narrow steps. I can get him carried some distance but carrying him up never mind DOWN...that's a challenge even for my son. Hubby is to the point where he probably can't lift a cat and Callie is sixty pounds of solid muscle...except for da knees. She said he would have to be on leash even in the backyard so he doesn't leap while he heals. Just mind boggling, guess the surgery is off the table...we can't afford it even with Care Credit and we all work multi jobs and me and my son are the only humans strong enough to lift him...Thoughts? Options? Opinions? I feel kind of lost here.

It there anyway of building a ramp with landing every so often for Callie to walk up.

I got this one for the elderly dogs I look after it goes from steps to ramp & folds flat when not in use

That is really brilliant Tina. Quite the best that I have ever seen.
@lovemybull, I'm so sorry that it's not good news. Did the vet say what the main problem is? Does Callie need the groove remodelling? Also, did they offer any alternative, (Hate to say it, but cheaper), op. that might give him more comfort, even if it didn't cure the problem? You had previously mentioned that there were floating pieces in the joint - in humans they can often do a 'tidy up', keyhole procedure to remove these floating bits. This should be cheaper, and might give him some relief, even though it doesn't remodel the joint.

Ya know the meds keep me from really manic but I still can think beyond the box. After I got over the initial shock...in this techy age there's "crowd-sourcing". A few sites that can provide charity resources, some even breed specific. I just have to figure out some of this stuff. Fortunately my oldest boy can explain everything.

    6JRT's and CaroleC like this.
The ramp I can build for the back patio. This is going to take a lot of creativity, from funding surgery to rehab. But yeah I am going to figure this out.

Good luck. Hopefully the crowd sourcing will be fruitful. The AKC card offers rewards for vet bills but don't know the other terms but if you still need to use some credit you can check that out or maybe find some good 18 month no interest promos.
It will be a lot of recovery, I'm sure. But he's a bully breed so at least they are pretty resilient.

I'm thinking of asking my oldest son for advice. He's majorly techy so maybe he'll have some ideas. I know I can print flyers at work. I'm thinking of local businesses. We live surrounded by towns we couldn't afford. But this can be a good thing...some well heeled dog lovers might be quite helpful. Like at the local Whole Foods for instance, if they just dropped $300 for a weeks grocery shopping, they might think nothing of helping a local dog in need.

I'd try online too. It doesn't have to be your local neighbors. Make Callie a FB with his info & situation.

Now I have to ask my kid a bunch of questions too. But can I put a Facebook whatever up for him without using any of my information? In other words there are a few estranged people that I don't want popping up. Can it just be all about him?

I've seen people make them for their dog or rescue dog that needs medical help. You do want a way for people to donate though. Would you have a PayPal link or something? I'm not sure how it all works as I've never done it but it appears just about the dog when I've seen it. If those people you speak of have FB I would block them straight away even if you don't include your personal info. That way they can't find or view the page JIC. But make a different email, one for use for Callie that way they can't look you up.

Exactly, he has his own yahoo account for emails and they have some kind of payment thing through the site I used. Just thinking my kid might be a help because he's active with the social networks-having dinner with him and his wife means they've taken pictures of their food and updated their location before dessert arrives.
They have social contacts as far as Thailand so I know he might have some great ideas too.

    The Facebook page is

    the gofundme link is
    gofund.me/q7s3xc
My manager let me put a flyer front and center of the registers. People are starting to respond. I also checked and gofundme accepts donations from the UK and Thailand. Plus a woman who works with area rescues was in today. I asked her suggestions and she's going to refer us to some groups too. Yow, I always thought of myself as so shy and here I am...did I mention how much I love this dumb doggie?
