Hi, I am cross posting this for someone, if you could pm me with any pictures or stories I'll pass them on, thank you! My local paper has just rung me about an incident that has occurred locally involving a Staffy attacking someone in the house. I don't have any further details at the moment but they have rung me to talk about the impact this may have on rehoming Staffys and the Staffy situation. (Seems I am becoming known as the 'mad Staffy woman' in these parts!.) The paper is quite pro Staffies as they did a lovely piece about the Staffordshire Regimental Mascot asking Staffordians to reclaim the Stafford. Anyway ....I have given the ususal blurb about the breed , not generalising and having to take into account the full situation that went on etc etc but wondered if anyone here has a Staffy that is used for Pets as Therapy or similar and wouldn't mind me emailing the details to the reporter so that they could perhaps put a more positive piece in the report. They are interested in running more articles and may run a rehoming page as well for Staffies...so working on that! Please if anyone can help asap so I can get it to them...it doesnt have to be anyone local
hello, my staffy is a bit of a hero as far as I am concerned. He is a rescue and is 10 this year, my daughter is now 6 months, but about 2 months ago, I had left her in front of tv in her bouncy chair to nip into kitchen to get a cuppa, the dog was just walking into the room as i got to the kitchen and next thing i heard the dog make a very peculiar sound, as if in pain, never heard him make it before- i ran through to the living room, and my daughters bouncy chair was shaking/bouncing and dog was right beside the chair - just staring at her, i got round the front of her and she was choking, grabbed her out , hit her on the back and thankfully she was ok, but what if the dog hadnt alerted me ??? he is a star with both kids, and i have no hesitation in sharing that . I have tonnes of photos of him with the kids, so just let me know what u need
thanks, it makes it all the more special as my daughter has had a few episodes of stopping breathing which started as choking - and had he not alerted me that first time, she might not have been with me now to get the treatment she is now getting !!
Back in Victorian times Staffies were otherwise known as "Nanny dogs"They were, until recent bad press, famed for being fabulous family dogs, particularly with children.Bad press aside, they still are. They have a very high pain threshold so young children (who DO pull tails and ears etc) don't incite them to snap as a more sensitive dog may do. I have 2 staff crosses, one is a bast'd with other dogs when he's excited. The other is a pussy at all times. Both are bombproof with children and all people.I'm not a bull breed fan as such but experience has taught me that these breeds are safe with my young ones.I would take in a dog friendly pitbull if it needed a home at this point and subject to temperament test, would happily let my g'kids play with it.Supervised as all but our greyhounds are when the kids are in the garden.
Have you thought about contacting staffy specific rescues? I bet they will have plently of stories to share. Rescue helpers unite is also a good place to go to get staffy rescue stories.... its a rescue site.
There are SBT competing at the highest level in Obedience, doing well in Working Trials, Agility and who are PAT dogs. go to the breed club sites.
This made me cry. The RSPCA has just made a film to promote staffies. The staffie who stars in it looks identical to my late staffie, Katie.
I have only met one close up as there doesn't seem to be many round here, her name is Ruby and she is really friendly and playful, and was so submissive when she first met Sabre. And loves to play with Craven.
Thanks all! I missed the replies to this, sorry! I'll forward a link to this thread to the person concerned, thank you
