Police return dog back to rescue home Discussions

Not sure how true this is, but its splashed all over Facebook:
Police force had a rescue dog from the RSPCA who they have been training as sniffer dog, but returned it after it was deemed to be "of type"
Surely the RSPCA would of realize this before allowing the police to take the dog, plus the police handler should of realized when he was handed the dog.
Not sure if the dog as been PTS or put up for re-adoption

Due to the red tape that says no dog of pit bull type may be legally rehomed the dog had to be returned to West Hatch, and due to having been judged to have been banned breed, he had to be pts.

Yes that's the dog its horrible why put the lovely dog down, first they said he was a boxer x staffy now he's "of type"

I've been in a temper all day after reading about this.

Oh how heartbreaking to read this he was such a happy dog too the poor dog handler must be so upset and poor Tyson RIP.

i saw him on the dog rescuers, what a shame. Poor dog and his handler must be upset as im sure they had bonded by that point

I am totally shocked that the RS do not access these dogs for breed type before rehoming them ,it not fair on dog or new owner, and one would have thought the police would have made sure considering they deal with these matters.

A friend of a friend recently got an adult staffy cross' from a well known Rescue, dog was seized as ‘type’ and she is now facing legal costs , rescue don’t want to know and refuse responsibility .

So I advise anyone considering rescuing a dog deemed as ‘type’ to get letter of conformation from said rescue that it has been checked out.
