The US North East typically gets below freezing temps and snow between maybe November to February. Last year we got bombed with so very much snow we had no lawn for two months. I work for a big box hardware store and today...well do the math, maybe 200 bags of rock salt a pallet and perhaps nine pallets in the store. Between 8:30 to 5:30 there were maybe four salt containers left in the store. They're predicting what? Five to seven feet of white stuff? They have to be kidding right? Global warming and catastrophic weather conditions...Al Gore was right on target. We have dog food, cat food, people food, flashlights, candles, shovels and salt...but I'm scared.
I do hope you will all be OK - I thought of you when I heard this snowstorm being predicted on our news. Maybe the forecasters are hyping it up, but keep us posted - it does sound bad.
Being scared won't do you a lick of good. Be prepared instead. I've lived in New Jersey and now live in North Central Florida. In 1992 I was living in Homestead, Fl. when Hurricane Andrew hit us. I choked back the fear and prepared myself for the hit instead. There was so much to do during the week before to distract me that I forgot to be afraid.
I saw the news where parts of the USA are covered in snow , hope all members living out there are ok x
Oy manydogz, we lived in Kissimmee for Hurricane Andrew. Didn't mess up our immediate neighborhood but there were windows blown out in hotels a few miles away. That wasn't so bad for us. Hurricane Sandy knocked out our power for four days, but again we were blessed. The next town over didn't get power back for three weeks. Plus there are areas at the shore like Sea Bright that STILL haven't been renovated since Sandy. Sometimes you can't be prepared. Those folks had sandbags and other protection but the ocean even washed out the breakers, houses just disappeared. Thank you for the hugs Malka, small cute critters are greatly appreciated! And yes Carole, every time the news guys say " historic" I want to belt them It's 4pm and schools closed for tomorrow, NJ and NY transit is shutting down by 11pm, NYC isn't allowing any traffic except emergency vehicles. This snow is a weird texture. I've never been skiing but maybe it's like ski snow? It's powdery, like you took a ginourmous tank of baking soda and covered everything. More updates later
Live in West Virginia back in 93 or 94 winter, got 36 inches first 24hrs, followed by 28 inches next 24hrs. They where warning people not to exit there house by 2nd or 3rd floor windows, rescue crews where digging out houses that where completely drifted over.
I cannot remember the year, just that I had a house full of dogs and puppies and it snowed. Opened the back door to let them out and the snow poured it. Not to worry, get the shovel out of the shed to clear some space. But [1] I could not get to the shed because of the snow and [2] the shed had collapsed under the weight of the snow!
We're supposed to get a lot of rain and cold temps, but that can change very quickly. The reports I get are for the nearest larger city which is about 70 miles away.
That dog chart is awesome! Well, time for bed and they say the fun weather is slated for 1-7am. You can hear the wind...time to hibernate and try not to worry. Something sweet was what hubby did today. This is what happens when someone has known you for so many decades they know what is perfect... Hubby got up first this morning. Then he went out and got goodies from our favorite bakery and had the coffee brewing. Wonderful treat for when I finally rolled out of bed. Then tonight despite the storm his job was still open a few hours. He got out early and came home with the meatball subs from heaven. No I don't need all the calories but yummies certainly cheered me up
Think it was wrong link. Hope you are OK. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...s-told-stay-home-case-transport-shutdown.html
Oh happy day, the monster part of it apparently went around us and out to sea. Still have a deep white world out there, but not the eight feet predicted. Oh and tonight's menu is slow cooked chili. Advice I would give to young people-What to look for in a partner-sense of humor, common interests, great work ethic, and they can cook!
I do not think my ex had any of those - which is why he was my ex! Glad that the monster went round you - strange that you use that word "monster" because us epi Moms use the word "Monster" with a capital initial, when talking about seizures.
Glad you're OK Leslie. The TV here is saying one foot of snow in New York. You could lose a Boston Terrier, but not enough to lose a bully!
