As always, feedback welcome - and if anyone could hunt out the health issues for me that would be a great help! Thanks!

    Hi Azz :)

I would just query the life span you have put, 12-16 yrs....???

My own Rough Collie was a very healthy specimen but died at 12. I know other Rough Collies but not any that have lived past around 13.

    Also, regarding character:

Rough Collies can tend to be quite aloof sometimes around other dogs and people.

Not sure if 'excitable' is the perfect word for them? The ones I have known were all pretty sedate

mine are definately excitable:mrgreen: , or is that noisy (especially when going for a run:lol: ) the oldest one i have had lived to 5 mths short of his 15 th birthday.
Excercise wise i'd say they are happy going for a 4 mile walk or a ten minute run not bothered as long as they get to go out.
training , i've yet to have one that actually retrieves a ball and drops it at your feet , 6 foot away yes:mrgreen: .

Thanks for the feedback both, I've made some changes - what do you think now?

Here's the main change (in bold)

I've also made a slight change to the training - better?

See, if I hadnt owned Roughs before Poppy, I would not have another. Love her to bits, but she has two very different personalities. I do believe its down to her poor start in life and not her breeders (she was shoved in a kennel, and no socialisation)

Sheena and Bracken OTOH, where bomb proof

I've had two, and definitely want more, but my two were not typical of the breed.
They both exhibit nervous and aggressive behaviour, but were unfortunately both very inbred with dogs that didn't have the best tempers!

I definitely found both of mine very aloof with strangers - will go up to them sometimes and then walk away from strangers trying to stroke them as if to say 'eurgh-I don't know where youve been!' - but they absolutely adored the family and especially the children with whom they were extra careful and loving around - i.e. the kids could do things to them that they wouldn't have tolerated from an adult.

My girl was also a pregnancy detector, she knew before my sister in law every single time she was pregnant!
My girl went when she was 12 and my boy - her son - is 12 this year and touch wood still going well, though he's slowed down a lot.
They've been difficult but totally unique and I'd get another one - or ten - in a heartbeat as I'm not phased by the hair or grooming and I just can't find anything more beautiful than the sight of one of them running up to me!

The smooth collie coat details are incorrect. You've copied the roughs which is completely different :)

My collie can be excitable and aloof at times
She loves children, will retrieve a ball or toy endlessly. Happy to walk for hours or ten minutes. Can be nervous and took some time to get used to new things when a pup. She is my best friend.

Agreed. I still have a soft spot for roughs, having walked two when I was a child (and of course loving everything Lassie too).
