Just wanted to say how nice it is to come onto a forum that has a page for crossbreeds. Some forums are so critical of crossbred dogs. i think they are addorable and if you get the right mix can be wonderful dogs. this is Kiera our Cavachon.
She's adorable And yes, it is nice to have a forum that has a page for crossbreeds! I've had several crosses .. Border Collie/Fox Terrier .. Rhodesian Ridgeback/ Lab ... Lab/Staffie to name a few, and they've all been wonderful dogs.
im not against crossbreeds at all, used to have one. i do have more of an issue with deliberate cross matings.
No they do sound silly sometimes. But then we have a "Pomble" (Poodle x Womble). I like pedigree Bichons as my Sister has a really nice one called Lily. I'm not keen on the purposeful crosses but the cutest pup I ever met was a Bichon cross Mini Schnauzer. I asked the owner if it had a silly name and he said "Bertie"!
I actually breed cavachons and dont see a problem with healthy dogs being mixed. I think some mixes are just not right and someone told a freine the other day they have a litter of Lab x Staffs. not a mix i would ever think of or do but i do love the bichon x cav.
We think it was Orinoco as Parker is greedy and lazy Mind you people do ask me if he's a "French Poodle" so perhaps Madame Cholet may be to blame!
I love crossbreeds. I have a german shepherd cross ermmmmm something & a Northern Inuit (effectively a crossbreed) aka as my mutts
A womble? There's a breed called womble? Well I never! I think some of the names used are names I'd feel silly saying - like labradoodle! Mongrel was the word in my day, or Heinz 57! When I was in the Cayman Islands I loved what they called their 'street dogs' there - they were Cayman Mutts.
I love crossbreeds/mongrels, too, and that is also what I call them. Would never buy a deliberately bred one though, I would only ever rescue them. Like some others, I also have a problem with deliberately bred crosses purely to supply the pet market, who then proceed to give them a daft name like 'Labradoodle' and sell them for a ridiculous price. No - they are Labradoodle x Poodles and should be called either that or simply crossbreed or mongrel!
Womble-noun for small furry creatures that keep Wimbledon common free of rubbish. They were the original green recycling folk; before councils thought of collecting your papers Uncle Bulgaria was out there doing it
Also, if I ever ask what sort of cross their dog is if I can't tell and would like to know, if they respond to me with something like 'a Jug', I just grin and say 'oh, a mongrel then!'. Can't help myself.
I love mixes and mutts and crosses... but I would never buy one or breed one! I have a friend of a friend trying to convince me to breed Mouse with their Chi as "Chiweenies" are better than their pure parents and are healthier and I could make alot of money from the pups, especially as they'd be cool colours... Umm... you want me to breed my deaf/nearly blind Dachshund that has allergies, to your crooked legged Chi with attitude issues and luxating patellas? really? the pups would be perfectly fine? Ummn, how about.... NO WAY IN HELL!!! is that a good answer?
Picking up on this point you have made...... How do you know they are healthy? I presume you have had all the health testing done? Such as hip and elbow screeding, DNA profiling, eye testing and, for the Cavaliers, a brain scan to ensure your dogs do not have SM? Even if you have done all the above tests (which I doubt you have), I would still completely disagree with these crosses being bred to supply the pet market.
