Does anyone know how long it takes dissolvable stitches to actually dissolve? [The ophthalmologist said they would be absorbed, by which I assume he meant they would dissolve.] But after 13 days the only ones that have gone are the ones on and under my eyebrow/just above my upper eyelid, which I must have scratched off in my sleep. The rest are driving me crazy with constant itching that I am having great difficulty from keeping my fingernails away from them, bits of the tiniest ever thread sticking out of my skin where the single stitches are, and the blood scabbing on the Y shaped stitched wound just beside my eye is sticking up with the ends of the stitches and will not wash off. I am used to regular stitches but never this type, and never such tiny ones. Any ideas will be gratefully received.
I know that - it is just that surely the stitches inside the wound and under the skin should have been absorbed by now so that the outer bits would just wipe off? 13 days is a long time - even the stitches I had after my hysterectomy were removed after ten days. These are so tiny and the thread so fine - I have no idea how the Ophthalmologist was able to see what he was doing! It is extremely difficult for me not only not to scratch or rub, but I have a horrid urge to pick off the bits sticking up!
My paper stitches all disappeared between 12 - 20 days, the thread ones was taken out at 14 days. As for itching that means your cuts are healing
These are not paper stitches but regular ones with the finest suture thread I have ever seen - like that transparent sewing thread? They are annoying me more than actually itching now as I can feel and see the tiny ends sticking out of my skin, the same as the tiny scabs surrounding the Y shape wound. It looks like someone has drawn lines with a red pencil down the side of my eye and then flicked bits up - and I am the sort of person who has difficulty not picking at scabs!
