    Mince Pies!

Just made a large batch of mince pies. I know they won't last long - my son is taking some into work tomorrow - so I'll be making another load tomorrow.

As a back up, in case I didn't have time/couldn't be bothered, I had some from Sainsbury's. I've just noticed the use-by date is March 2015. Makes you wonder what they put in them to make them last so long!

Well they cleverly avoid mentioning E numbers on the box and describe the preservative as Sulphur Dioxide, which is probably an E number in disguise!

I'm sure they taste very nice but they won't be as nice as home made ones, so when my husband goes to visit his mum in the nursing home this afternoon I shall get him to take all the Sainsbury's Taste the Difference Mince Pies!

Just taken my mince pies out of the oven and am now waiting for the quiche Lorraine to finish cooking ... my supper this evening with a salad. This year I've only made a dozen mince pies as I'm on my own, quite a difference from the Christmas before last with the family when as fast as I made them they got eaten by my two grandchildren!

I know the feeling! It's the same with pancakes!

I love my DIL to bits but after 25 years of marriage to my son she still hasn't a clue how to cook. My son does all the cooking but as he's been diabetic since childhood never makes puddings, cakes or pastries so whenever I'm with them I get the job ... as well as preparing all the veggies and the washing up! The last time I was in the UK was for my hip replacement op and I was hobbling around on crutches, which according to my teenage grandson wasn't sufficient an excuse to opt out of cake making as it was something, so I was told, which could be done sitting down! As there's no arguing with teenage logic I did as I was told but only on condition he made me tea on demand!
