Yes I have seen them advertised as miniature labradoodles when the sire is a miniature poodle rather than a standard .
I think they started to breed them smaller as the standard crosses are so big .

Someone will have bought those pups believing they have a designer pedigree:shock: . Sorry, I just don't agree with breeding for financial gain only and there's no other reason for breeding these crosses IMO.

I don't get why people who have poodle crosses and the like do the old 'he doesn't moult' thing. There are plenty of non shedding breeds to choose from already, and surely mixing a non shedding breed (poodle) with a shedding breed (lab) could result in the pups that DO shed hair. All this designer cross breeding gets on my t*ts.

I would just like to add I don't agree with breeding them either . I own a poodle and I have no idea what you could possibly gain by crossing them ( apart from loads of money )
Some of these labradoodles are born with straight hair and nobody wants them . :-(

I am not a fan of the designer crosses...especially at that price

However....I have someone who specifically went looking for a straight haired one....not quite sure why, however, she has now trained it up to be her own assistance dog (she has Spina bifta (sp?)) I have to say it is a fantastic dog (everyone thinks its a Saluki X!) She didn't want a poodle as she would not have coped with the grooming.
There are a lot of them around doing very well so they obviously fill a niche...(Although I am sure there are other breeds that would work)

It's good to know someone wants a straight haired labradoodle and that they don't all end up in rescue :)

Nope, just this one for now ;)

I thought it was common knowledge about the sizes in all these crossbreed types, obviously its not that widely known at all.

I meet a small "labradoodle" at the park, it's about the size of a working cocker, quite hairy.

£750 for a cross breed beggers belief, a fool and his money and all that.
Oh and by the way a labradoodle will need grooming everybit as much as a poddle or a lab or it will continue to shed hair.

Very true on all accounts, Jacquie, I'll second everything you have just said.

Oh, a "labradoodle" will need more grooming than a Lab!

    Why?

Are they more hairer than poodles, or just hairier than lab's?

Also I went to the local shelter and saw some cross Labs and asked if they were labradoodles and they said nah, just mongrels.

Whats the diffrence between a mongrel and a crossbreed?

I have not been on the forum long, but I am quickly becoming annoyed at your rude off-topic comments. Isn't there a moderator on this forum?

As for the mini labradoodles, a "designer breed" is something like bred once between the two different breeds (lab and poodle), then the offspring bred back to the primary breed (poodle). But there are different variations of it.

It better explains how one would cross the dogs to create the desired end result.

A crossbreed (to my understanding) is when two known purebred dogs produce puppies.

A mut/mongrel (to my understanding) is when you are not sure what the parents' breeds are.

A cross breed is the result of two unknown or known pedigree dogs .

A mongrel is the result of dogs who have more than two breeds in their parentage..

    I.E... labradoodle is a xbreed..(not a designer one\)

A heinz 57 is a mongrel... it could have more a multitude of breeds in its making.

Whether they be xbreeds or mongrels..they dont warrant the rediculous prices they are fetching..

There is a young labradoodle not far from me..he is on 22 tablets a day to keep him alive........there goes the argument of them being healthier than pure breds.
