    Mayhem at vets

The hooligans at to go vets today for their boosters, it was totally mayhem this is what happened:
Zeus managed to escape from his body harness, ran round the waiting room at high speed upsetting all the other dogs, (I was outside laughing as husband tried to catch him & put his harness back on)
Dottie bit the vet after he took her muzzle off, he wanted to check her teeth, we did tell him not to remove her muzzle.
Kobi growled at all the dogs in there & started a fight with another dog, which resulted in Kobi needing stitches in his left ear
Ziva she was a angel just sat there as good as gold, until we at to go see the vet then she decided to put her paws down & was not going to walk full stop.

I am now thinking of having 2 yearly boosters after today

    Rather you than me!

It's bad enough taking Georgina to the vets which for the past three months I've had do every Monday. The moment she sees the vet she sinks to the floor wishing the ground would open up and swallow her .... which of course it doesn't so I usually have to drag her in. :090:

On Monday we had the added complication that she has just come into season and as I have no desire for her to lose her virginity in the waiting room I left her in the car until the last minute. Just as well I did as the next patient was a VERY LARGE GSD! :100:

hehe. Phoebe stays in car at vets then we sneak in back door as she just barks none stop the whole time. I do have a giggle at some of the other dogs though

I wished I filmed it too, as just getting into the vets itself is hard, as they have escape proof doors 3 of to get into the place, the first one opens inwards second opens outwards & 3rd one opens inwards, its hard enough with just one dog getting through the doors, let alone trying to get through while holding 2 leads & trying to get both dogs in between the doors, (only one door at a time will open) after getting through doors, we at to weigh each dog easier said then done, but with help from receptionist we got them all weighed, I would love to see the vets CCTV of Zeus escaping out of his harness & running around the waiting room as it was so hilarious, watching it from outside the vets (Zeus is a great escape artist, he can escape from any type of harness/head halti or collar, that's why I let hubby take Zeus in) there was hubby 2 receptionist & 3 veterinary nurses all trying to catch Zeus, who thought it was a brilliant game of tic a nik, hubby caught him in end then spent further 5 mins trying to understand how the harness goes on (head first then right paw cross over back then under tum then clicks together suppose to be escape proof harness) after hubby had harness on they release the doors so I could come in. X

wow thats some door system. we have a door to a small corridor where you choose small or large animal and a door in to waiting room. both doors open in so phoebe just barges her way in i dont even open door (thats on the very rare occasions were allowed in waiting room - mainly late night surgery only)

I only ever take mine in one at a time, although they all seem to quite like the vets. I hardly ever see anyone else there unless I turn up early and meet the previous client coming out.

phoebe loves the vets think it helps that my best friend is behind reception but because its a large hospital the waiting room can have up to 20 people in it as 7 vets consulting, 2 nurses plus surgerys going on during normal hours. After 7 is great as only 1 vet so we can go inside as be the only people in the waiting room

Oh right we only have the one vet, several nurses though and they seem to allocate quite a while for each appointment too.

To be honest I'd have hated to have been in that waiting room with my Missy. Not only does she not like other dogs ( and would therefore be liable to lunge/snap at a loose dog in her face ) she also HATES the vets and an environment like that in the waiting room would only make matters worse for her. I don't visit our vets regularly thankfully, and every time we have been the waiting room has been relatively quiet ( the surgery itself is pretty quiet ) but if there was many people in there, I'd simply wait outside with Missy.

Our vets is massive the 3 door system is to stop any pets from escaping, waiting room can hold around 40-50 people they got wall to wall benches plus 2 middle benches back to back then wall to wall bench other side, that's at the one I go to they have 2 more surgeries one 5 miles away other 2 miles away, they do boosters, claw clipping, ear cleaning, worming & weigh in clinic 9am to 12pm, from 1pm to 7 pm they do all other stuff ie broken bones stitches out, toilet problems etc, all operations are done 6am to 9am, they have 2 emergency vets rooms open throughout the day, these are for real emergencies only as no appointment needed.
My dogs all love the vets as they are given a free goody bag, scrap that they love the free goody bags (dental stix, fish sticks, toy & flashing light for collar/lead bell for cats) yes think its the goody bags they like rather then the vet.

The waiting room at our vets is small with only 6 chairs to sit on and if there's 3 large dogs in there, very often GSD's, it becomes overcrowded. (,As I feel guilty about mentioning GSD's so often I should explain they're probably the most popular breed in this country so its almost inevitable we meet a lot of them).

Unless your dog is scheduled for an op its first come, first served,. No receptionist either, one of the 4 vets will come out of the surgery and deal with whichever dog is the next in the queue, although with Georgie having an English speaking mum we usually see the same (English speaking) vet each time.

Vets are inexpensive. Last Monday I paid £33 for Georgie's eye tacking op which was done by one of the best opthalmic surgeons in the country. All future check ups are free and I'll probably have to pay another £12 when the stitches come out and her eyes are examined for any scratches to the corneas. Should she need antibiotics there's a pharmacy on site.

Our waiting room is very small too with about 8/10 chairs. Nice, quiet, and personal is how I like it.

    Love those prices there!

Sounds like ours too, maybe a dozen chairs and hardly ever anyone in the waiting room.
The price for eye tacking is amazing, We pay that for a consult.
I like my vet though, he has a very gentle manner and all the time in the world for us.

For all 4 hooligans they do discount for 2 or more pets making it £20 each, I take K9, Skye & the 3 cats together in September,
The normal price is £25 for dog boosters, the cats are only £15 for boosters not sure why the cats are cheaper, but if you take 2 or more pets in together then its £20 for dogs & £10 for cats.
