    Looking for GSD puppy

I have decided it is time to start looking for another dog. I considered rehoming or rescue but have so far come to a dead end there. So now I am actively looking for a longcoat gsd puppy.

I would welcome any thoughts about particular gsd breeding lines either to avoid or to recommend.

I was very naive and very lucky with my first two dogs who both turned out to be very healthy and very trainable. I love the fantastic temperament of the dog I have now but have found her to be much harder to train. But I have learnt so much from this that hopefully it will stand me in good stead with my next one ;-)

    Have you tried BIGGSD .com?

Loads of dogs needing homes there, a fair few young ones too.

I'll have a look but I thought BIGGSD rehomed mainly in the south. If I was to take on a rescue I would want one that had been properly assessed in a foster home.

Definitely have a nosey on Big GSD, as there are some absolute crackers on there. Do you definitely want a young pup ie 8 weeks?

Why not see what Karen and Doug's breeding plans are, and get another from them? If you are worried about Tala's trainability, see if they are breeding from Anja this year. She is Yogi's dam and was incredibly ball obsessed and trainable - as is Yogi :) I would definitely have no qualms about going back to Kazeti for another pup if I were wanting one - but being so involved in rescue means that I will most likely go down the rescue route from now on.

The other two GSD breeders I love are Nyrvana and Conbhairean (just google their kennel names and it should bring their sites up). Nyrvana breed longcoats (as well as some standard and some working line) and Conbhairean breed standard coat but have a longcoat stud (Lauser or pet name Dougie) and he will throw the odd longcoat in to litters sired by him. He is absolutely stunning. I will ask Heather if I can post a photo of him here for you to see.

Good luck and if I can be of any help at all just PM me :)

They are mainly down South, but not always. You are in Yorkshire aren't you Irena? Have a word with Dyane (JoedeeUK on here) as she helps at a GSD Rescue in Yorkshire I believe.

Thanks Kirsty. I have had a look at Dougie on the website and he is absolutely beautiful. I will get in touch.

From what I can see of their website Karen and Doug have no plans to mate Anja so far. I am going to Flyhart to meet Otto and Molly this weekend both of which are Kazeti dogs and apparently both love chasing balls!

If you had asked me a year ago I would have said no more show line gsds, back to obedience lines for me. But Tala has such a wonderful nature she has made me consider another one (but hopefully a bit easier to train this time ;-) )

I have also looked at Nyrvana and want to visit but it is quite a bit further so takes more planning.

Please take pics of Otto and tell me what you think of him. I have only seen photos of him as a pup and he looked lovely then :) Molly is the standard coat isn't she?

I like the obedience lines too - have you contacted Tony or Brenda at Foxfold to see if they are breeding this year?

Margaret at Nyrvana does have some fantastic dogs but it is quite a long way to travel. I visited her kennels a few years ago and had to travel from N Lancs to Hertfordshire, which did take a bit of planning.

Good luck in any event, and I am sure Tala will love to have a little brother or sister.

I visited on Sunday and Roxy is having puppies which will be ready to go to their homes at the end of April. I don't think Brenda and Tony would be prepared to take back an adult dog if for example I became ill and couldn't keep it and this has become important to me as I would not want my dogs to go into rescue. But I could be wrong as I didn't ask. Also 5 of the puppies are already booked. So I am hesitating there.

    He's a lovely boy

I've had a look through and can't see them. I did really like Annie but she was gone in a flash. And they won't rehome to me because they think the dog would be left too long while I am at work and that it's not enough to have a dog walker come in once a day.
I'm really looking forward to meeting him but just a bit worried about his grandfather's hip score. Philippa seems lovely too
