When you are living with a middle-aged Beagle like Pikey you never know what the next day will bring. We were on our daily walk when, from across the street, we saw a neighbor walking two large dogs (I don't know the breeds) to which Pikey took particular offense. He started barking, baying and tugging very hard on the leash. Before I knew it I had tripped and was falling to the ground. For reasons I can't explain, I ended up with two fairly serious lacerations on my ring finger, one on the inside and one on the outside, just below my knuckle. As luck would have it, the father of the children playing outside was a doctor (what good fortune!) He looked at the injury and very authoritatively said there would have to be stitches. To my great surprise, he said he would take me to the ER, which he did. Then he stayed with me while the ER doctor did his work. I was thinking to myself: "what a great neighbor this person is!"
What a kind person. I hope you are feeling better today, John. Falls like that can really shake you up, as after a certain age you don't bounce any more!
How fortunate that you have a Good Samaritan as a neighbour. I hope your finger heals quickly. I have been brought down by the dogs on a couple of occasions - and the worst bit is that they are thrilled to bits that you're down at their level and start giving you a thorough licking while you're struggling to get up!
Oh Pikey wot a norty boy to trip your master .... I hope you told him you're very sorry and have promised not to do it again! I had the most stupid accident last August. I was bending over Gwylim, next to the metal driveway gates, when I saw Georgina racing towards me. Thinking she might bump into me I put out my right hand intending to grab the gate, but lost my balance and caught my wrist between the bars of the gate. Result ... a broken wrist and 6 weeks in a plaster cast! Sometimes being a dog owner is hazardous!
