Phoebe(we also call her Baby) is a cross between a black lab and a basset hound. She is black with a bit of white. Long body, short legs, a lab head and about 55 lbs. of muscle. Her personality must be more like a basset hound. I think that only because she not overly friendly or a little goofy like the labs I've met. Having never been around a basset hound I have no idea what type of personality they usually have. Baby is very leery of strangers. When one walks up the driveway she'll give one low, kind of soft bark and stand there giving them the stink eye. touch the latch on the gate she'll bark once again and take a few steps towards the gate all the while giving them the stink eye. That one bark gets the inside dogs going so I know someone is there. No one has ever tried to open the gate. If I let the person in she'll move closer to me, but doesn't approach the new person or bark or growl at them. She just continues to watch them. I've taught her many things but I did not teach her this. I have always wondered if this is more like basset hound behavior. Many people have asked me what kind of dog she is and I have no answer. You have labradoodles and cockapoos and so many others. But what would her mix be called?
Some of those designer names take longer to work out than just guessing the breed lol! I'd call her what she is - a lab x basset mix
If you really want to give her a "breed [made-up] name", although I do not know why you would want to - you could call her a Bassador, but I would just call her a crossbreed.
The designer name for a Labrador X Basset hound is called Bassador (hope mum was labrador not the basset hound) but I personally would tel people she's a Lab X or Basset hound X
As mentioned by the guys above, the cross is often referred to as a Bassador (cool name ) but it's up to you what you want to call her. Post some photos in this thread as well if you get a moment!
That's a pity Lois, as I quite like the sound of a Cockett, (a coquette). A Bassker doesn't have a very nice ring to it though.
