I know we have a few members here with dogs who have epilepsy, just wondered if you've looked into the ketogenic diet for dogs? It's a high fat diet which has been used in humans to control epilepsy fairly well. CC/ @Malka @Lucky Star @KatieNSayers
The problem with a high fat diet is that it is not good for a dog who has had an attack of pancreatitis - which, incidentally, both Pereg and I have had although she has only had the one attack. Kbr [Potassium Bromide] can also cause pancreatitis in epileptic dogs although as Pereg is not on Kbr we do not know what caused her attack. My first attack was as a result of many years taking furosemide for high BP and although I was immediately taken off it when it was found to cause pancreatitis in some patients I still get mild attacks. Furosemide is now removed from the "basket" of approved medications. These are just a couple of sites where pancreatitis and Kbr are connected. http://www.akcchf.org/canine-health/your-dogs-health/disease-information/pancreatitis.html http://www.canine-seizures.freeservers.com/potassium_bromide.htm So I watch the amount of fat that both of us eat.
