hi. my wife and i have an 8 month old lab/golden retriever cross named "katie". one of the things i notice that puzzles me is that she has a very fluffy tail, almost like an alaskan malemute, which she tends to carry in an "arc" over her back, the way i have seen malemutes and other sled dogs do. to me, she looks mostly golden retriever (her mom was a small yellow lab), but we don't know who her dad was. could katie have some malemute in her? the bottoms of her paws are furred the way i have seen arctic sled dogs, and she LOVES snow. maybe it would help if i could see a photo of an adult golden retriever, so i would know if they tend to carry their tails like that. katie and our 11 year old lab/beagle/aussie shepherd cross "chuk" get along very well, although sometimes chuk gets a little cranky when katie gets too hyper. karren tells me there were 9 puppies in katies litter, and they all looked different. from what i can gather, they may have had several different dads. we got katie when she was 9 weeks old. any infio on the curled tail is much appreciated. she just started doing this recently.
Hi, just curious...if you don't know who the dad was, how do you know that she is a lab/Golden cross? Many dogs will carry their tail high like you describe, although it depends on the breed as to whether they are 'supposed' to be like that. If all the pups were different, there's a chance that the sire was a mongrel and there are lots of different breeds in his make up. So it could be possible that there is mal in her, though the things you have mentioned are by no means conclusive - my border collies have furry paws and love snow and one of them sometimes carries her tail as you describe..but there's defintely no malimute in them Whatever she is, I hope you enjoy your girl, she sounds lovely
our vet thought she was a lab/golden cross, but she could just be an unknown mixture of several breeds.
Post some pictures and we'll all have a fun round of guess the mix ... Most likely she's what is known here as a Heinz 57(for the number of varieties of soup the Heinz company professed to have) or a Bitsa (Bitsa this, bitsa that)
here are some photos of katie and our older dog chuk together. katie was about 12 weeks old at the time, chuk is 11. (chuk is the black and white dog. he was my wife karren's dog long before she and i met.)
we really need to get some photos of katie now at 8 months. she has nearly doubled in size from these baby puppy photos. what do you guys think she is a mix of? i have no idea. we love her anyway, and good old chuk! we also have a ferret "bandit", and 3 gerbils.
oh bless, she's so cute in the puppy photo (as is Chuk too) I can't really see her so well in the smaller photos - you need to get the camera out again
