    It's off .... at last!

I finally had the plaster cast removed last Wednesday .... what a relief not to be weighed down any longer .... it was so heavy that I had a definite list to one side! After it was removed I was sent for an Xray (in the past 3 years I've have so many I must glow in the dark). Although the fracture's healed my wrist is slightly dislocated so I was told by the doctor, who spoke no English, to do lots of gymnastics????? :017::017: which sounded quite horrific, and conjured up visions of me doing handstands or press-ups :090:but when I looked it up simply means exercise in English.

Yesterday morning, as my wrist wasn't hurting I decided to drive into town to do some shopping ... silly me ... couldn't turn the key in the ignition with my bad hand, but not to be thwarted, after a few attempts managed to start the car with my good hand, but then came the problem of releasing the hand brake and putting the car into reverse which I eventually managed to do. By the time I'd got to town I was feeling pretty confident so decided to carry on and drive the 30 miles to the shopping mall. Did I enjoy myself ... :081: ... spending far more money than I intended to .... but I'm worth it (I think)! But I paid the price for my foolishness 'cos my wrist was so painful I didn't manage to get much sleep last night and this morning when the district nurse arrived got a right telling off :091::091::091:. My wrist is now encased in an elasticated bandage with strict instructions ... Do not Remove! :018:

I expect to be told off again when she comes on Monday, because on Sunday I'm off to the big city again to look for some light fittings and a new bed! :103: Well, steering a car and changing is exercise isn't it? :102:

So pleased for you that the cast is now off but do take it easy Barbara, especially when driving, as you would automatically grab the steering wheel hard if you had to hit the brakes hard in an emergency.

I found out the hard way what damage it can cause after having surgery on my left wrist - it tore all the interior stitches as they had not yet been absorbed. Apparently it takes about six months before they are fully absorbed.

Needless to say my wrist had to be opened up again and restitched, and that was about three months after the initial surgery.

So please be extra careful when driving. (((hugs))) xx

    Update ....

Luckily, I didn't need any surgery .. all they did was to clamp my fingers into a primitive looking contraption which hung from a pole and then stretched my wrist by adding a heavy weight to my upper arm, before enclosing my hand wrist in plaster.

It's now a week since the cast came off and my wrist is getting stronger by the day. Last Saturday though I woke up with a sore throat and a splitting headache ... the flu I'm afraid and I'm only just beginning to feel better. I did manage to get my light fittings but not my bed (ran out of energy) and I now have a well lit kitchen once again. My kitchen/dining room is 20 square metres with a high ceiling and since the double light fitting at the end where I prepare and cook food, exploded a couple of months ago I've been working in the gloom! It makes all the difference when you can see what you're doing.

Princess Pei Face and Gwylim the Conqueror will be home on either Saturday or Sunday. I just can't wait ... I'm going to make sure I'm sitting down 'cos I don't want break anything else! And then we start training again, but with a new trainer as Kinga decided to go back to university. I've had several discussions with Robbie, Gwylim's breeder and we both think the little man would do well at agility ... and Georgina??, (maybe she could be gainfully employed as a sniffer dog)???? Anyway, he's going to speak to some of his trainer friends and come back to me.

All very exciting and a whole new world for me!

It wounds horrid what they had to do to your wrist - in fact sounds horribly like some of the things the orthopaedic hospital had to do to my infant daughter with her hips, before the start of countless major surgeries, but hopefully all is well healed now and you have/will have full use of your hand/wrist/arm again.

So sorry to hear that you then ended up with flu [reminder - must check after Rosh Hashana to find when the flu shots will in] but I am sure that Princess Pei Face and Gwylim The Conqueror will be as happy to see you as you will be to see them home again!

Please please please take loads of photographs when they come home so we can see how happy they [and you] will beI!

    (((hugs))) xxx
