Hi does anyone know what this could be on the back leg of my Springer spaniel pup please? Just wandered if it's normal or not? Thank you.
It is a rudimentary dew claw, and there is usually no bony attachment to the leg. They are usually taken off when the puppy is four days old, but being so small at that age, they do sometimes get missed. It shouldn't cause any problems, but if you have your Spaniel trimmed by a groomer, always remind them that it is there. If you show it to your vet, they may recommend removing it if/when you decide to have your dog neutered.
