I fell over the puppy gate

It is not exactly a gate but the top of an old plastic clothes airer, minus its legs and with the two "wings" folded over it and taped to it so it is double. I had originally had it across my bedroom doorway but as I got fed up with being unable to go to the loo without the devil trying to pull my nickies off I moved the "gate" across the salon doorway.

It slides between the wall and my upright freezer and then across to just inside the doorway. If I move it across it means that the devil cannot get through, and sliding it back gives me enough room - just - to get through. And I open it for the devil to get through to go into the kitchen for her meals - leaving it open so she can come back once she has decided that no matter how much she tries, she cannot get any more food out of an empty bowl.

Wanting to go to the loo this morning I slid the gate open to go through...

...and one of my crutches caught on it and I went flying over the top.

After the last three episodes of head hitting stone tiles, I always take my spectacles off before I heave myself around on my crutches - two of which required ER treatment [I had taken my specs off for the last fall] it could have been worse. The right side of my head hit the tiles - hard. I wrenched my right shoulder, and bashed my right knee on the tiles.

    OUCH

To add insult to injury I did not have time to slide the gate closed so the devil got through and decided that if I was on the floor it was a good excuse for her to jump all over me, and have a nibble on my left ear while it was available. :077:

Hope you're okay Malka no broken bones or cuts anywhere.

:044: naughty Tikva nibbling on mummies ears why she's on the floor :044:

Nothing broken but a badly wrenched shoulder, probably because I could not drop my crutches, and bruised knee. Oh, and a lump on my temple, half on my temple itself and half under my hair, which might start bruising. Probably other bruises elsewhere but I do not feel like stripping off to check! It was just a heck of a shock falling like that, and a rather painful one at that.

Of course I can not get off the floor unless I have something solid to grab to get myself up, but luckily I was just outside the loo doorway so I managed to crawl the metre to get in, grab the handle of the shower chair with one hand [that shower is unusable now as the inlet water pipe is blocked but the chair comes in handy for draining large items, and the brakes are kept on], and the rail between the shower and the loo with the other hand and got myself up on the chair. I could then wheel myself to the doorway to get my sticks.

Nibbling is better than biting but Tikki has gotten much better regarding the latter now although she can get rather over-exuberant when she is over-excited.

Sorry about your shoulder, hope it's better soon. Glad you were able to get up OK, otherwise you'd have had a very thorough licking and nibbling!

I know it does not sound it but luckily it is my bad shoulder. Had it been my left shoulder I would have been stuck with both shoulders dodgy.

It is at times like this that I wish I could take something stronger than paracetamol, but that is better than nothing.

Glad your sense of humour was not dented, Malka. I'm beginning to think that you should have had a larger breed, which you could have used as a hoist to get back onto your feet. (Wouldn't have been as easy to cuddle on your lap though).

Ah, nothing can beat a greyhound or lurcher resting its head on your lap!

The only thing dented was my pride . Pereg was not that big but she was heavy enough for me to grab hold of her harness to help me at least get somewhere where there was something for me to grab hold of to pull myself up, my legs being far too useless to use for leverage.

Tikki, of course, is not very tall. Her legs, which were always longer than a Daxie are growing longer, but so is her back, although that is still far shorter than a pure-bred Daxie, and no way would she help me even if she could.

To her, me on the floor = a giant toy!

    UPDATE:

After two hours of not being able to sleep because I lay on my right [ouch ouch ouch] wrenched and bruised side, I eventually zonked off. Tikki had gone to bed in her crate [with a very small biscuit] after she had finally pee'd [she will not pee to order].

I think it was gone 7am when she ee'd to say she wanted to pee [she does not like peeing in her crate - the pee pads in there are for tearing up and making a bed ] so got up, she went scuttle scurry through to the salon and nearly flooded one of the pee pads in there.

Back to bed with Tikki sitting in her crate waiting for another tiny biscuit.

Ten minutes later she ee'd again. She decided she wanted a poo. Went, did it, shot back into her crate waiting for another bikkie, and back to bed and sleep for another couple of hours [innit nice being retired!].

All well and good but when I looked in the mirror this morning to wash my face...

...talk about bruising from my right temple to my jaw - and from the feel of it on my scalp as well...

...and I have another black eye. :089:

You will have to be more careful Malka you might seriously hurt yourself one day.

K9 thinks little Tikva is just after having more biscuits by only going wee & poo after you have gone back to bed. :077:

Weeelllll - apart from eye socket and cheekbone fractures, oh, and minor skull fractures, nothing serious - yet. Must not forget the 20 sutures beside my eye and just above my eyelid, but the scars are hardly visible now.

Tell K9 that they are really tiny bikkies and if he saw the way she shoots back into her crate after her pee and poo so that I can get a bit more sleep, he would not think that way!

I had to across the road to the macolet this morning, ignoring stares at the bruises on my face, so I had to leave Tikki in her crate. All I have to say is "bed" and "bikkie" and zoooom - she is in there ready! :D

Tikva associates her crate with a small bikkie therefore it is a good place to go. So that cannot be bad.
