Hello, We've been speaking with a breeder about getting one of her (unborn) puppies, but I'm not sure how we research the pedigree line. I've been reading a lot about health checks etc and I will ask her about them but would also like some advice on that from other people with experience. Not had an ESS before but met the puppies, uncle, grandma and great aunt (i think). Their a Gleadsbury English Springer. Thanks Maria
Check which conditions the Kennel Club recommends testing for in that breed, - you will be able to find this on their website. Ask the breeder whether she carries out health testing, and which of those conditions she tests for. If you decide to buy a puppy, ask if you could see the health certificates for the parents. These should show the date of the certificate was issued, the test and its result, and the name of the dog - which should match with the one shown on the registration/pedigree. ps. I have just Googled, www.dogbreedhealth.com/english-springer-spaniel, seems pretty comprehensive.
