I have had a horrid day at the kennels. One of my favourite dogs came in sunday, she has lump on her face and owner said it was a fatty lump, dont worry. Today it had swollen to 3 times the size and was leaking. I called the vets and booked her in but before i could get there it burst good and proper and the smell was unreal. But i kept calm and cleaned her up best i could and took her to her vets appointment where she was still leaking and boot of my car stinks now. Vet says its an abscess formed around the lump, but the lump is not a fatty lump as its actually attached to her jaw bone and there fore cant even be operated on. Vet says it is most likely cancer as they are common for created abscess'. So i now have daily cleaning and draining of the abscess ( that im not bothered about) and then i have to tell the owners that they need to get the lump checked out as its more sinister that they thought, im really not looking forward to this. While all this is going on i have a very upset puppy (9 months) as she is with the poorly dog and we have had to separate them due to the poorly dog having a cone on and needing to rest and although they are opposite and can see each other the puppy is very unhappy. what a poo day
Poor dog hope she can still eat ok, as for the puppy she soon cheer up & will be bouncing around again x
yeah she can eat, the lump is on her cheek going on to her chin but this morning her chin looked like somebody had put a tennis ball under her skin. she was much happier after if burst though, pressure must be awfull. but she got anti biotics and pain relief / anti swelling medicine now so will see how she is in the morning
What an awful day, no wonder you're fed up. At least she's had treatment to help with pain, and I just hope it's not as serious as the Vet suspects.
A real horrid day Katy - all I can do is send you lots of cyber (((hugs))) and pray that the news about the poor girl is not too bad.
Well she is feeling a bit better today but is very unhappy about the cone and its making her sad, so i let her have a some time without it today and stay with me while i did my jobs (tied a long line through my belt loop) was happy hanging out with katy. Cleaning it this morning made me sad as i have to say its yukky. Have to give it a gentle massage and then clean with very mild hibbiscrub. Vet says if a scab comes on the hole i have to pick it off so it can continue to drain, its only once stuff stops coming out i can leave the scab. Thankfully no scab. The dog is a very old springer (shes 12) but stays at the kennels atleast 8 times a year for the 3 1/2 years ive worked there and is such a good girl you cant help but love her. With her age and the fact the lump is attached to jaw i doubt this will have a happy ending.
