Welcome Hiccup - you are gorgeous! I love his ears - actually I love all about him! How old is he and how big will he get - the pictures with Ripley and with Sam give an idea of his size now, but I do not know enough about the Podenco to have any idea. What do the others think about him? He really does seems happy and settled and unfazed by his new dog family - and he is adorable!
He is so sweet Erin, a little smaller than I thought - or is it Sam that is big? He has bonded with Sam hasn't he? How old is Hiccup, and what is his story?
His passport says he is 9 months old Found out lost in the countryside at about 4 weeks old, then been in a Spanish rescue ever since. He is very cuddly, still quite nervous and seems frightened of moving cars, prams, bikes and men... but he's getting more confident every day. He's Sam's little sidekick... practicality the same age! Has slotted in fantastically; it's like he's always been here! Not weighed him yet, but he's around 21" tall, so like border collie size? Very dainty though. He's quite a small pod (they come in different sizes), so I don't expect him to get much taller, if at all
I am so happy for Hiccup that you rescued him - please give him a gentle hug from me. Oh, yes, also please give all the others hugs from me - you have the most wonderful tribe and I would so much like to meet them - alas, never to be.
Lost at 4 weeks? Sounds more like abandoned to die, doesn't it? I hope Hiccup grows in confidence to be all you want in a dog. BTW, did you have to pay his importation costs? I'm sorry to be so curious, (if you think I'm being nosey, please ignore this bit), but it might help someone else in the future.
I paid £275 for him directly to the rescue and that was it, they sorted everything out Vaccinations, microchip, flea/worming, neutering, passport, import/paperwork checks on the journey and "delivery" (from Spain to my door, driving, someone with him for the whole journey) He also arrived with a collar, harness and coat to keep him warm!
He's very, very poorly at the moment. Potential diskospondylitis, meningitis or a spinal infection. On a boat load of drugs to help his pain while we wait for the results of his blood tests.
Oh Erin, I'm so sorry to read this. The poor little chap must have been through so much trauma already, he certainly doesn't deserve this - and neither do you. I'm hoping that he responds quickly to his treatment, and there are no lasting effects.
