Tonight’s supermoon, passing within 221,524 miles from Earth, will be “the closest full moon to date in the 21st century.” The last time a supermoon appeared this close to the earth was 68 years ago, on May 14, 1948, and the next time a supermoon will occur is not until November 25, 2034. If you are in the UK this link will give full details: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/0/what-is-a-supermoon-and-when-can-i-see-the-largest-moon-in-70-ye/ It is dark here and the moon is coming up over the trees opposite me and looks so big - when it gets overhead it will no doubt look even bigger. What a fantastic sight.
Only a misty ordinary sized moon here so far. They did say the best chance was later, so I'm staying hopeful. The meteor showers were all disappointing this year, not seen a good display for yonks!
I wish I could take a photograph of the moon but there is nothing to compare it with so it will not show the size. Such a shame Vee and Tina [and all who had hoped to see the supermoon] as it really is something incredible to see. It was almost as large yesterday and will only be a fraction smaller tomorrow, so if it is clear where you are tomorrow you still have a chance of seeing it.
There are a lot of pictures and video clips on YouTube but IMO some of the best pictures were shown on the Mail Online, both on Sunday night when the moon did not appear at its largest, and some stunning ones from all over the world yesterday. Lots for you to chose from so if you were unfortunate enough not to be able to see it from where you are, I hope you enjoy some of these pitcures. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/home/search.html?sel=site&searchPhrase=supermoon
When we went to bed last night the sky was cloudy and you couldn't see the moon. At midnight a certain young gentleman started wuffing, needing to go to the loo, something which is quite unusual for him. I opened the door to a clear sky and a large golden disk shining directly above me. Needless to say I forgot to take a photo! And then again at 4 am got woken by the young man needing another poo! As he shot up the garden I saw the moon for a second time, just over the horizon!
