Hi there, as some of you may know I have been thinking long and hard about getting another dog, a little friend for my cocker spaniel! After much discussion at home, (I picked the last 3 dogs!) we have decided on either a golden retriever or another cocker spaniel. I feel as if I am finally able to do something now. The golden retriever club of Scotland were very helpful and I got a few numbers from the secretary so I will be phoning round this weekend to see what's available in July. I had a problem getting on the cocker spaniel club website but hopefully will get some numbers from them tomorrow. Any info welcome!
I have 8 cocker spaniels but would love a G.Retriever in the future, so I'm afraid I'm not much help to you....lol. But I do love watching my cockers playing, chasing and rolling around having generally good fun.
To be honest I think either way you're on to a winner! GRs (in my experience) are fairly laid back and fit in well with family life and get on with dogs and humans equally well. They might need a bit more exercise than a Cocker, but saying that all the ones I've met are horizontal most of the time! ;-) With the Cocker, you've already got one so you know the breed and what to expect etc! It's going to be a difficult one!
Crazycockers, you lucky thing, all they lovely spaniels.Your life must be fun! I have a blue roan and I would love an orange roan or black and tan, what have you got? I am looking forward to seeing a golden pup, as ripsnorterthe2nd says, I am on a winner whichever we get. I just have a thing for spaniels .
have you thought about contacting rescues? I am almost certain golden retrievers have a breed rescue :smt001 if not, they should not be hard to find in all breed rescues.
Ooo thats a hard one,:? I grew up with spaniels and they are great family dogs as you will already know. My max is a 7 month old GR and he's my 2nd GR Honey past away at the grand old age of 13 and was faithfully and placid until the end even when she was ill never growled or turned on the children. i have found with GR they are a great faithful, lively, outgoing, friendly family dog so laid back they should fall over. So i would say GR but you have to take into account all that energy, long hair, molting which can be a bit of a nightmare ar times when theres hairballs rolling round the floor like a tumbleweed either way they are both lovely breeds and im sure which ever you choose will be a great addition to your family.. good luck with the search.
Hi.....I have 4 orange roan, 2 blue roan and 2 black & white! They are lovely, all have their own little personalities and I wouldn't be without any of them.
I think your on to a winner with spaniels as i have two cavalier king charles spaniels and a springer spainel but as well i do like G/R so i wish you luck in whatever you decide to get.
Get a Goldie, they are so loyal loving easily trained etc and will get on really well with cocker spaniel, however suppose another c spaniel would suit for size, Goldies can be boisterous depending on which breeder they come from! but are the most loyal dogs around and so gorgeous to look at too, miss ours like mad, mind you not so keen on the breeding out fot he true colour and going for whiter ones to make more folk buy them love to see pics of original breed they are so different take a look and see what I mean, look forward to hearing your choice, its exciting buying a new pup love it xx
Ummmmmmm..... that's a hard one well it would a cocker spaniel for me every time......... maybe that's why i have five mmmmmmmmm............. i'd love another black and tan
