Hello, Does anyone know of any kennels (particulary show kennels) that have or are breeding Siberian Huskies with a fox like appearance rather than a wolf or greyhound look? Im looking for breeders in the Uk mostly however im liking the look of the current Innisfree lines in America. So any countrys with these looks i would like to hear. ( Hope this is the right place to post if not ill move it to the right place )
... Yes, i would have thought that was obvious when i said show kennels What i mean is ive been showing for a while now and it seems alot of UK kennels are breeding long legs and short fur into their dogs instead of what i would class as 'fox type' like some American kennels are doing which is fine if thats what you like but i dont. Im looking for the shorter legged (not exagarated like a corgi mind you) fluffier coated dogs. However unlike the americans i would like a defined crop not a straight one. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any smaller kennels who breed this type, as most of the kennels ive been researching are in favour of the 'sprinter' type.
If you're showing then you must know of some kennels whose dogs you like? If you favour the American type you could always import, but if the type is very different it may not do anything in the ring over here. You would also have to consider whether you would like to work the dog, as some show lines are not great workers.
ok, so now im confused :? u want a short american type...when infact a proper 'siberian' should be dual purpose! the same dog should be able to work and show! (ie fit the breed standard and function it was bred to do) ... so the question i would ask is,do u really want a sibe? or are u more concerned about the way it looks :?
Yes there are a few 'big' kennels which I like, however my question was to find kennels I might not have heard of either because they are not that well known or are small compared to some of the 'bigger' kennels. I was thinking of importing in the future but I would much prefer to visit the parents and pup and get my next pup from this country rather put the poor thing through unnecessary travel. I’m hoping to do more research on smaller unheard of kennels before I make my decision on my next pup. ... I dont know how to answer you Tupacs... I’m not new to the breed by any means and didn’t get them just for their looks, they are a very unique loving stubborn breed (which fits me perfectly well), but I’m sure I don’t have to tell you that. I’ve been in the breed for over 10 years now, currently I have 3. One who is very leggy, short furred and what I would class as a 'sprinter' and then I have two smaller ones who are very much fox like and are very fit for function. In my opinion the taller dog wouldn’t last two minutes in his original setting he would freeze to death with his short fur, and as for fit for purpose he may be faster and outrun my other huskies in the first 10 minutes however he hasn’t the endurance that my smaller ones have. Hence I can’t run all three at the same time because they have different paces. Out of all 3 I prefer my smaller fox type who in my opinion fit the breed standard more and that’s what I’m asking advise on, I’m not here for a lecture which in my opinion is very demeaning.
im not lecturing u or demeaning u im sorry if u feel that way, u hit the nail on the head with the bit in bold..re read the standard, and look for the lines that fit that best, ones that work/win in harness as well as get placed at shows... of which there are many
Mr fang which kennels do you know. I may be able to suggest some possibly. is this the type you are thinking of
@Tupac Well im sorry too, i took it like you thought i was getting my first siberian and only wanted one that looked a certain way. @rosegallagher The face looks very much like what im looking for a very fox like head with a mane of fur around the neck/head. Unlike some huskies who have a very chisled smooth head. However the body would be a bit on the big side to me. It looks too malamute like, however i do like the amount of fur this one has. At the minute the only english kennels im interested in are Muskeg (have loads of fur but im not sure on the breeder), Jacalous (These dogs have lovely foxy heads however most are short coated and very lean), Rajarni Forstal and Zoox are very tall and lean so not for me. From America i like Innisfree, Silverfox and FoxFire (south africa) however i find most american bred dogs have no crop, and that seems to be a deciding factor in uk judging. I tried to upload a picture of a particular dog i like but couldnt, The dogs name is Innisfree Red White and Blue, That to me is the perfect head and shape for a male husky.
This is a pic of r,w & blue i found Have you tried dreamcatcher siberians ? They breed lovely siberians, maybe take a look @ their site I actually prefer the racy type dogs but not too lightly built. sisko our bitch in the picture has a very dense coat, she isnt as heavy built as she looks, problem with the denser coats is when they run in harness they get hot quickly.
there are extremes at both end of the scale which dont fit the standard, i know there is a split within the breed ...and i have my own preferance but what i personally like the diversity of type we have in our country. have you tried the Shimani kennels OP?...they have Innisfree lines i believe.
@rosegallagher You have beautiful dogs! Thats the problem im having i know of kennels with beautiful foxy faces and then diffrent kennels with lovely foxy bodies but never at the same kennel. Ive checked out Dreamcatchers they have lovely dogs and seem to be very ethical breeders. Thanks @Noushka05 Thanks for your help they indeed do have innisfree lines! Ive never heard of Shimani before you mentioned them so its now opened my options up. Thanks for all your help!
