Hi, I'm sorry I don't have the answer but will be watching the thread with interest as we were told the same about our young collie girl.
The person that said it said welsh collies were a completely different breed which is something I've not heard of.

welsh sheepdogs are a different breed welsh border collies are the same breed as they are anywhere. I think there are welsh lines just as there are english, irish and scottish. Not sure about the size thing although it is something that I have heard lots of times. Sol is from wales and he is quite small but I can't remember what percentage he is welsh lines:? He also has relatives that are much larger than him just to confuse things further! Generally bitches are smaller than dogs so it's possible that she is just a small bitch although to be honest I have seen just as many of a similar size to yours as I have larger:)

    Agree with Julie welsh sheepdogs are a different breed and much bigger and definitly not what your girly is;
    http://www.welsh-sheepdogs.co.uk/

They could mean welsh breed, Julie covered that

Out of my girls compared to yours one is the same size, one larger and one smaller, BCs are perfect in any size

Your girl is gorgeous and I love the prick ears, her coat looks in great condition

Border Collies also come in all shapes and sizes  I have one who is very tall, [ a boy ], one who is `average` for a male, one who is average` for a female, and a girl who is very petite. Many from Ireland, [ where my petite girl is from ] are often on the smaller side.

I dont know where this welsh collie thing has come from, but its common, There was one guy where i used to live who would swear my Nellie was a welsh collie cos she was small. Its not correct! A Collie is a collie is a collie, there is no divide within regions or countries.

The Welsh Sheepdogs are a different thing alltogether, but these can reach GSD size!!!!!

Saying all that we live in cardiff & look at my tinsey wincy Mav!!!!!!

Don't know the answer to that I am afraid, I know you can have a DNA test which will tell you it's make up! Zoe and a couple of others I know from the agility club are about the same size as yours ~18 inches! I wouldn't worry about it too much :D

Welsh Sheepdogs are a different type altogether,we did have a bitch that came from Wales no diff. to any collie we have had before[IMG][/IMG]
The tricolour is Tweed from a Welsh hill farm, the blue merle is Rook bred by a friend who farms in Co Durham, and the Blk/white is Sprig who was born in a ditch in Ireland, all collies but all totally differ.

Still have never seen a collie girl as tiny as ours. Cassie's only 11.2kgs and just a wee titch of a thing. Your collie is very similar to Cassie's friend Polly. Absolutely gorgeous:grin:

    Here's our little madame.

    HI there,

    She is really lovely :0)

As for the size issue..... I do believe the KC breed standard for BC's states 21 inches for dogs and bitches slightly smaller !!!

I know quite a few girlie BC's that are shown that are around the 18 inch size so I would not worry !!

Also at 8 months old she still has a bit of growing to do, I dont think my Bill was fully grown until at least 16 months - but they are all different :0)

Enjoy her she is beautiful x

    regards

    Rach
