    Finally narrowed it down...

We will be looking at a dachshund/poodle mix in the near future and I think I am going to fall head over heels in love. So I go into with a good head on my shoulders, is there anything I need to be aware of with these 2 breeds that would be less than desirable? The woman who has the pups said both parents have great temperaments. My husband and I have put a lot of thought into getting another dog and we would like it to go as smoothly as possible.

The puppy will be ready in mid April to come home at 8 weeks old. It is a male pup. Thanks in advance.

What an exciting time! Haven't come across this particular mix before! Do you know what type of dachshund it is (i.e. coat type and size)? I've had lots of Poodles and, assuming the parents have had health checks, there really aren't any problems with them apart from coat care. They are very easy to train, though rather bouncy. All mine have been friendly to other dogs, cats and little furry things.

Can't really comment on dachshunds, though I think they are delightful little dogs and I have noticed that people who have them tend to remain very loyal to the breed. I know there are potential problems because of the long backs but I don't know how common or rare that is. I get the impression that they might be stubborn though I could be wrong. I suppose it will all depend on whether your pup inherits more Poodle or dachshund characteristics.

I'm assuming the father is the Poodle?

I hope you can let us see some pictures at some time - I am intrigued to see what they look like (though I know they will be gorgeous!)

Stubborn and Dachshund go hand in hand! I am lucky in that Tikva takes after her Minpin sire as she does not have the Doxie long back, which is a Very Good Thing as she has springs for legs!

It sounds like an interesting cross and I look forward to seeing pictures.

Yes. The father is the poodle (I believe toy but could be miniature) and the mother is a standard wirehaired dachshund. The puppy is black with red highlights and absolutely adorable! More info to come. Oh and thanks for the replies!

Hey all. Sorry to get your hopes up about us finally getting another puppy. It is not going to be. It just wasn't in the cards. I will keep you posted when we are able to get another one.

Oh that's a shame - what a disappointment for you. But when it's meant to happen, it will.
