Hate it these dogs being forced to stand still for hours on end why they paint them, if these people want to show off their skills then they should do it on an canvas not on dogs.

I really don't like to see it .If people want to be artistic there are plenty of other outlets for their talents...

No way do I think this is "harmless fun" - I do not like to see dogs messed around with like that and thing it is definitely unfair to put the dogs through all that grooming. :009:

I dunno, my dogs are shorthaired but they all love being groomed and getting my undivided attention, I don't get the point of this but if the dogs really didn't want to comply I think they'd make their feelings known. My lot love showing off so why should these dogs be any different.

First things first... it looks absurd! That gotten out of the way with... I'm going to have to agree with Trouble here. BOTH of my dogs love to be brushed and handled and frankly, I'm sure my Nigredo would enjoy having people handle him for hours on end and play with his hair etc.

It's far from animal cruelty IMO. The dogs are not harmed and I have a feeling that at least some of them enjoy this attention. If the dogs hate it, then sure... don't do it, but what proof do we have that they do? Just saying. I think my dogs would like it personally.

The cats? NO WAY, but perhaps some cats would enjoy it.

I suppose it all depends on what their lives are like the rest of the time. If they spend every day having to stand for hours while their owners practise on them then I would say yes, it is very wrong. But if most of the time they are living normal lives and it's only done when they're getting ready for a competition I don't think it's cruel.

As a Poodle owner I know how they love attention, and they are real show-offs, so the chances are those dogs are enjoying it. Cats, though, are a different matter - I know none that I've ever had would tolerate anything like that!

At Crufts I saw the dog which had featured in the TV programme on Extreme Grooming. It is obviously loved and was quite laid back about standing for long periods, BUT, It looked ridiculous! We all love our dogs the way they have been created, so why make them into cartoon characters?

I know dogs can't feel humiliation, but that's what I think this is to be honest - humiliating. The dogs look ridiculous and it's also pointless dying it in every colour imaginable and painting on it.

I agree DogLoverLou. It looks ridiculous. That's my main point. Even if the dogs enjoy being handled and whatnot, you don't have to put 50,000 colors on them to do this. You can groom them for a long time or whatnot WITHOUT putting all those colors on them.
