as the title says, my toby often eats the tips off tall blades of grass, i sometime have problems getting him away from the tall grass, and becomes alittle mischeivous and sneaks back for another little chew. Question is; a, is it harmfull b, why is he doing it c, should i stop it??
My dogs are right grazers too. Always have been. There's no harm in it. Some say dogs do it if they are feeling unwell but I don't believe it. Mine have a good balanced diet and they still like to have a chew on some sweet grass. I would't worry about it. As long as it's somewhere where you are certain sprays have not been used.
It's really nothing to worry about. As to why they do it, basically, it's because they can...... Lennon, one of my Shiba's treats the morning walk as his own vegetarian buffet, eating grass and all manner of green stuff
Mine eats grass to! When we go on walks with my little cusions they find it hilarous and say..."looks hades is a cow"! Its funny how kids find the littles things funny... I think its quite normal for dogs to do so....
He's doing it because it gives the insides a good clean out Dogs can't digest grass so they eat it and it acts as a kind of brush that helps the poop along. Sometimes my two eat so much that it gets a little stuck and I have to pull it out of their bum But it doesn't do them any harm to eat grass. Every so often they eat enough to make themselves sick, but that's usually if there's something in their tummy that's upsetting them and it doesn't want to go through the digestive tract. Sometimes if mine have had a bit too much bone, they'll eat a large amount of grass, sick it up and re-eat the stuff that isn't grass. Lovely eh? HTH x P.S. Let him eat as much as he wants
Blaze eats grass and other greenstuff too. She's very particular about which leaf from which plant she chooses. I think dogs instinctively know what's good for them and will choose to eat plants that give them some benefit.
Paris eats grass too! Phil not so much. Paris also hangs around in the kitchen wwhen i'm preparing veg for our guinea pigs! She's rather partial to cucumber, tomato and carrot sticks!
