ello Just wondering what you think of the Dogsey forum vs the Breedia forum, both in terms of design and ease of use. Which do you prefer? And why? (For those of you who are not familiar with Dogsey, it is our sister site, and can be found here www.dogsey.com)
Having been on Dogsey 9 years or so it's 2nd nature for me to use. Breedia certainly has a fresher more modern feel to it and whilst I'm less used to it - it's very similar in style to some other forums which helps.
I like the brighter appearance of this site. For some reason it has a more relaxed feel - perhaps because it has a smaller membership we feel a bit closer! I also like the ability to show 'Likes', I find the 'Add to reputation' on Dogsey a bit secretive.
I belong to both sites but much prefer Breedia for similar reasons to CaroleC. I particularly like the breed specific forum because you don't have to search to find information about the breed you're interested in. And from a purely selfish point of view, as the only (well almost) Shar-Pei owner on Breedia it provides me with a record of all my postings about Georgina
Some minor problems with Breedia, such as No Today's Posts whether read or not, but on the whole it is clear, clean, easy to understand. Maybe a few bugs but nothing that cannot be sorted.
I stopped going on dogsey a while a go. Cant remember the reason now. Came here after azz emailed asking to put phoebe on the site. Glad i came, but havnt ventured to dogsey for a very long time and dont feel the need to.
Just a thought Azz. If Malka was agreeable, would it be possible to have a news feed on this site? The stories she finds for Dogsey may not always make happy reading, (which is true of the news in general), but the purpose is to inform, and there are often interesting and heart warming stories which deserve an audience on here.
To be honest,I don't have much chance to catch the news or be up to date on the world today,Malka has opened my eyes to what's going on and I'm glad of it.its easy to get wrapped up in your own bubble
Firstly I want to say that I do not go trawling through the media for news stories about dogs, although anything about dogs catches my eye. So when Azz first opened the section where anyone couple post news stories on Dogsey, I took a great interest. And I subscribed to various sites that send me all stories from all over the world, referring to dogs. And be believe me, some are not dogs of the canine kind! It is something that I like to do - find all the [canine stories - I am not interested in the other kind] that I find interesting. They can fit into a News Section but also can fit into a general dog section for discussion - or - as some I have found, be about specific breeds. You only have to read some of the threads I have posted on the Pit Bull section to understand how some of these articles have changed my mine. So yes - if Azz wants to add a News Section/News Feed to Breedia, I would be only too happy to "feed" it. [Sorry for the pun]. On Breedia I can post news and stories that are different to those on Dogsey. Although of course some stories are still News articles for both sites. Because I seem to be able to find stories that are not normally in the news. And some are more suitable for Breedia than Dogsey. How about it Azz? I mean you can just call me the News Reporter [hint hint hint!]
I actually have another idea that I have been mulling over lately, and that is to extract the news out of Dogsey, into a dedicated news site for dog owners (Well all future news rather than all the old articles copied over) I am not sure it would be beneficial to duplicate news from Dogsey to here (it's not fair on Malka if nothing else) but, by having a dedicated site (which I would code myself) we could then add a side column on both Dogsey and Breedia and it could list all of the latest news from this new site (or popular news). Then anyone from Dogsey and Breedia could click through and leave a comment. That would mean Dogsey switches to being a general dog related forum, instead of a site with lots of different sections such as news, articles, blogs etc (the main thing used on Dogsey, by most people, is the forum). However it is just an idea at present - these things take time (and money!) to set up
You can forget about being unfair to me, Azz - some general news items are easy to post on both - some are breed specific and easy to post on the respective breeds. OK - where would you post this?... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...ng-rottweiler-takes-blissful-soak-shower.html As a News Article on Dogsey? As an article on the General Dog Section on Dogsey? Or here on the Rottweiler section on Breedia? I think it would be a good article as General Dog section on Dogsey AND on the Rottweiler section here on Breedia. What do you and anyone think? As Pereg is a mutt I actually do not have much to offer Breedia, although I learn more and more about different breeds - through the articles that I am sent. I like having these articles come through my inboxes and I like choosing ones to post. Some days there are so many that it is difficult to choose. So I try to pick 3 or 4 for Dogsey - general dog chat ones not necessary to limit if I think they are of interest. And for Breedia I try to post breed-specific articles. I would like to continue as I like what I am doing and I really find some wonderful articles that really have no home but which I think people would really like to read.
Yep I would agree Malka. I still like the idea of a dedicated news site though, because I think people like focused sites nowadays, rather than big site with lots of sections (that sometimes are not frequently updated - as has happened on Dogsey).
Im not a member of dogsey, but having a look through it there seems to be a lot of sections that hardly get used, I find breedia more compact but if I want to look up (for example) a training thread one has to sift through the pages, unless it is a ‘new post’ first one for training is page 5 for GSD.
That's a good point, and I think once we have been going a while (and have more of those threads) we can add a drop down menu at the top of each section that when clicked, will show all threads of that category. You can currently just click on a category while in a forum to show all other threads in the category
Vee - they are both different and do not forget that Dogsey has been going for years whereas Breedia is new. There are maybe unnecessary sections on Dogsey that are needed here on Breedia. Basically two different forums. One a general dog forum and one a breed specialist one which is still under construction. I think that Breedia has a few bugs that need ironing out, and think maybe Dogsey needs some things just taken out. But Azz be de boss man and he will sort everything out. In the meantime they are two different forums. And I actually love them both.
Im quite aware they are two different forums and was not criticizing or comparing either, Azz asked a question (QUOTE Just wondering what you think of the Dogsey forum vs the Breedia forum, both in terms of design and ease of use. Which do you prefer? And why?) I gave my opinion
Apologies - I misunderstood you. And your opinion is as [forget the word - valiant?] as equal to mine. I am having major language problems at the moment so please forgive my unintentional mis-understanding wordings at times.
I haven't used Dogsey properly in a long time. I much prefer this site to be honest. Not exactly sure why but I find it easier to find new threads (on the right hand side) and I think it generally has a brighter feel. I also like that it is a smaller community on here so you get to know other people well and it has a more personal level
