A customer today gave me a gift of sorts. He was moving to a place where he couldn't keep an aquarium and he wanted to give his fish to the store. The manager said we don't have room for more fish so I was free to bring them home. I already have a 20 gallon freshwater tank. Fishy one looks like a fat oversized goldfish...Koi right? Number two is gray stripes with whiskers, bit bigger than the Koi, longer. Then fish three is an oddity, regular Goldie size but silver white and almost transparent, also with whiskers...looks a bit like Squidward on SpongeBob. Oh and I finally found the camera again yayyy me, I'll try to get some pictures.
Without knowing whether they are tropical, marina, warm water, cold water or salt water fish can't really help. but sounds like they could be different type of catfish
Not necessarily a koi, common goldfish can grow HUGE... like over a foot long. Working in a pet shop, it makes me furious when people say "we 'just' want a goldfish" after I try to steer them towards smaller temperate species.... arg!! Pictures would be massively helpful
The pic above is exactly what the smallest one looks like, you can almost see through it's little head...the whiskers are so interesting though.
Does sound like you have different types of catfish, they come in different colours zebra stripes, a see through one with neon blue running on top xxx
The bigger striped one bought the farm this morning. Not unusual though, when you add new fish usually at least one or two aren't as hardy as the rest. We also have a high concentration of cat fur in the water...Change the filter weekly, it comes out fuzzy.
I used to have several fish tanks and had the same problem as you with dog and cat fur in the tank and then clogging the filter. I Covered all places where hair could get into the tank with fine window screen. And I had one small hospital tank that had an open topped filter that I also covered. Solved the problem.
