    Deb's Doodles - Goldendoodle breeder

    Hello,

We are getting close to a decision on a Goldendoodle puppy from a breeder named "Deb's Doodles" located in Montana. I just wanted to see if anyone had any experience with them - positive or negative. I'd appreciate any feedback. We just want to make sure we are making the right decision but being based in CA we haven't heard much about them.

    Thanks!
Soon to be Goldendoodle owner :)

Well, I like the contract, except they do not ask that the pup be returned to them if it doesn't work out, which every GOOD breeder should be able to do. I don't like the number of pups being churned out at one time. I think they Goldens on their parent page are UGLY as sin, and not very typical of type at all. She claims all appropriate tests have been done, if so, and the results are good, then this should be posted prominently on the web page. No reason for secrecy here. I don't like them spaying/neutering large breed dogs before 12 weeks of age.

I would certainly ask for all the relevent health test information and verify it before making any purchases.

    Good luck!

hello and welcome to the site.

You will find the subject of "doodles" here to be a very emotive one, as most of the members here (we do have a few doodle owners) will be against this kind of money making crossbreeds.

Afew things I picked out on her site, that would send me running to the hills, are 1) she is although an established Doodle breeder she is still on the F1 generation of her breeding practices, which means there is NO guarantee your pup will be none shedding or uniformity in looks , depending on why you want this crossbreed, if you want a non shedding or a certain look to a dog, you will have to take a lucky dip in what you get.

Secondly, her contract is laughable, the only stipulations she has included are , what any responsible owner would do, i.e love your dog and give it a good life, there is no mention of her taking responsibility for the dog if you find your self in the position of not beign able to keep it, a good breeder will stipulate ALL dogs should be returned to them, in the event of them needing a new home.

    3) She guarantees ALL pups will be free for 3 yrs of any genetic ailments:shock: IF she had done her job properly, and health tested her breeding stock and they have come back with flying colours , then said pups, should be free from those health issues for LIFE........ not 3yrs. excluding hips, as enviroment can play apart in a dogs joint care also.

The whole purpose of health screening is to eradicate health issues in your dogs for each new generation, NOT just for a few yrs!

Sorry to say, your choice of breeder is not what I would call a reputable one, and to be honest, I would think most here would agree.

But then I would question anyone who breeds these crossbreeds motives anyway,:?

Good luck in your search for your new baby.

muttzrule I know what you mean about the looks of the GR, but unless I am mistaken that is the "type" you get in the US, they are a lot lighter frame than ours , with a slight roman nose. not my preference at all!

just been reading the contract and further down there is stipulation that the pup goes back for rehoming or they assist you. it must not be sold on or handed into a shelter.

agree that on paper not the best choice of breeder though!

They are commercial breeders and I can't see any evidence of health testing, hip scores, elbow grades, eye testing etc. Cross breeds like doodles are prone to suffering conformation related issues, such as ligament injuries because of the more upright structure of the stifle. This is something that isn't bred for in the golden retriever, so you are introducing a 'fault' that may lead to injury with this type of cross.

Personally, I wouldn't touch a breeder like this with a barge pole, I'd suggest you go to a rescue organisation and save a dog from being put to sleep instead, I see ten or twenty dogs a day via another online site I go on daily, waiting to be put to sleep in the US. Breeders such as this one are only adding to the burden of unwanted dogs that are overwhelming rescue organisations.

They may be really lovely people, but I can't agree with the way they are churning out pups and the prices they are charging for cross breeds simply because they are fashionable.

I'm sorry, probably not what you want to hear, but I'm a forthright sort of person, and I'm sure you'd rather people were truthful than not in their responses.

taken another look, and you are right missed that bit:blush:

But in reading further down found this bit interesting.

Will replace a pup , if hereditary conditions (HD etc, ) is found, funny thing to say if one has done all health screening, dont you think!:?

Jackbox, fair enough, those are the type of goldens that come out of puppy mills round here, but never seen a show quality or even field quality golden that looked like that. We do have some nice goldens in this country. Its not like this is all that lady had to deal with. Likely, she couldn't find a quality golden breeder that would sell her a dog knowing she was going to breed crosses. So she got some backyard monstrosity.

You may be right, (will have a look on the AKC site when I have time):? its just that when ever you see a GR on US TV they look like that, took me a while to realise they where Goldie's:? :?

You are probably right and I am just used to seeing that type , but I agree, not what I would call a Goldie;-)

Wouldn't touch them with a very long barge pole!! Obviously a puppy mill.

I don't like the way the price includes shipping!! To me that shows she's not even bothered about meeting prospective new owners and is happy to palm them off anywhere!! What decent breeder does that??

There is no way I would ever want to buy a pup from someone like this!

Or a St. Poodle? :? You'll find many "doodles" in shelters across the US... from people getting them then realizing they are not as advertized, why not adopt one of them?
