I have a four month black labrador. His coat is very wavy all along his back and all the way down his tail! Does this mean he is going to be curly? and will his hair be long?! I've never seen a lab with curly hair! His mum was yellow and his dad was black. Both had the typical lab short hair. It has stumped all the other dog owners I've spoken to!
Most short coated breeds tend to have a slightly longer hair length down the spine and this can be wavy. I have seen many labs with such a coat. However, in view of his age it could be he is just starting to loose his puppy coat ready for his adult one. Becky
The Lab pups we have here at the moment (they are just 8 months now) had a very curly coat in the way you are describing at 4 months. It has nearly all grown out now
Storm our choc lab, has wavey fur down his back. He seems to have developed it as he's got older, he's 3 now. He's also got quite a bushy tail. Our first lab also had wavey fur on his back, I wouldn't worry about it.
I have a friend who many years ago bought a golden retriever, but his coat never grew it stayed short rather like a labs!!!!!!!
Missy my Lab (3 years old) is short haired but on the bottom of her back and on her bum it is slightly longer and wavy I wouldn't worry it's pretty normal
My yellow labrador has a long wavy line down the middle of her back to her tail-shows more when she has been swimming-my brothers dog, yellow lab. has exactly the same-appears to be quite common so don't worry
Hi-my girl is a rescue dog but from working breed and my brothers lab. is from a reputable breeder of show dogs
