What would be the benefits of this? Is there any reasons not to? Just seen a litter with a czech dam and show line sire so just wondered really.
There are some people who cross the two hoping to have a dog "somewhere in the middle" there are a few in Working Trials, not a route I would go down, and I have not been impressed with most of the dogs I have seen which have done this, however Vreli Middleton has bred two litters which have been successful in trials, one winning a ticket owned by Tony Lockyer.
I would be interested in working my next GSD not competitive though. Would the mix of the 2 be better then going straight for a working line?
Hard to say, my view is that what people aim for is not what they actually get generally speaking. Breeding a strong dog with one that is not so strong does not always produce a happy medium; it quite often produces some very strong ones and some not so strong. So it is a bit of a lottery. I am not sure what work you are planning to do with your next dog if it is not competitive?
Im not sure yet...schutzhund maybe. I just mean im not worried about being amazing at it just something me and the dog could both enjoy
The guy I used to train with has bred a few litters (too many in my opinion, but that's another story ) and has used show line stud dogs (with reasonable drive and Sch titles) on his working line bitch. The ones I have seen (which admittedly is limited to the two he kept and two who came for training) were a mix really. Three were quite similar and I would have said middle of the road types who would make good pets but had enough drive for working trials/obedience/agility type training, but the other one just seemed OTT to me and far more hyper than her working line dam. She found it hard to settle into work and wanted to do everything at 100 miles an hour (whilst screeching the whole time ). She was only around 10 or 11 months when I last saw her though, so she could have settled now.
Gorgeous pics, especially love the dam This is the litter: http://www.*********.co.uk/litter/22750 alehronty GSD
