Does anyone belong to the crosbreed and mongrel club and what do you get back for your £10 besides joining a club if they don't advertise events in your area and all seem miles away.
Hi, I've been a member for over 10 years now. For £10 a year you get about 4-5 newsletters a year, reduced entry to shows and they also run members weekend rallies. They are good shows as the dogs are judged on conformation, conditin and movement not just 'prettiest bitch' etc. Not sure about shows in your area, they update the website as the year goes on with new events (they only advertise shows that are run under the CMC heading or include a SCAMPS qualifying heat) but it does sometimes take someone to kick start an area. I asked some Companion Dog show organisers if they were happy to hold a SCAMPS heat at their show and, once they knew what it was they were okay with adding 4 classes to the event.
I emailed the chairperson and have spoken to owners of crossbreeds online in my area all seem reluctant to join,as many of us dont drive snd want more than a few newsletters or just membership of a club,The discounts for shows are useless to us as all we have seen advertised are miles away unless someone can point us in the right direction of someone to speak too,or for our companion show organisers to speak to for the membership of club to be financially worthwhile, from what shows I,ve seen on there webpage Who do I contact living in the south east is there a regional co irdinator in london or sussex who we could approach and maybe look into how we could work together with the club,i am still awaiting email reply.
I guess everyone wants/gets something different from a club. I just like to know that when I go to a show I'm not going to be limited to classes like 'Prettiest Bitch' or 'Best Crossbreed' where the judge pays little attention to the actual dogs and just appears to pick a winner at random, I much prefer knowing that my dog will be looked over properly (mostly at least, you still get the occaisional 'It's only a crossbreed' judges) and judged on conformation, condition and movement. I know that there are active members in Kent but that's as far as my knowledge goes. I also know that it has a small committee of volunteers that have to run everything, it's not a KC equivelent with loads of money for advertising and for running shows nationwide. On the website there is a form that can be completed for application to hold a SCAMPS heat at a companion show so anyone can fill it in and, if successful, hold a SCAMPS heat.
Thanks i guess i ll have to look over website again for this form, i agree with your comments though re judges and crossbreeds not being looked over properly and judges picking at random,i am also of opinion once a dog has qualified for crufts (top three place at a champ show in relevant classes) they should withdraw from kc companion shows(at least the novelty section) and stick to COMPANION pedigree classes and also open and champ show giving those with a rescue or crossbreed family dog a chance as i feel even in novelty classes except obviously best crossbreed, movement etc i find its often a pedigree dog placed over a crossbreed thats why i like the idea so much of the crossbreed and mongrel club i just have reservations over the limited access i would have to shows as i rely on lifts and public transport as i don't drive.
